ACHIEVING NURTURING KIND SAFE

Nursery to Primary 1 Transitions

At Hillington Primary we are committed to ensuring smooth transitions between Nursery and Primary 1 for children, parents and practitioners.

Our Infant Depute Head Teacher and Primary 1 class teachers visit each nursery to meet with the children who are due to start with us at the beginning of a new session. Whilst visiting nurseries they also liaise with the Nursery Manager and Key Workers to help us develop a deeper knowledge and understanding of each child.

Children and their parents will be invited to two induction days. Usually these take place in May and June. You will be notified about this dates by post. Induction days give our new children the opportunity to visit their new school, experience the classroom environment and meet their new teachers. They also give the Senior Leadership Team to chance to meet with parents to share vital information about the journey from Nursery to Primary 1 as well as answering any questions that parents/carers may have about their child starting school.

Throughout the year there will also be other opportunities for new entrants to engage with us at Hillington Primary through organised events such as our Teddy Bears Picnic. We will keep parents up-to-date about events by post. We also encourage all parents to engage with us at Hillington Primary through our school website and Twitter.
