Home Learning in P3a

Our staff have been working hard to produce home learning activities for our pupils. Each pupil has been given a home learning guide that provides information on how to access Sumdog and Glow. We have posted the booklets to any children who were not in school when these were distributed.  Please click on the link below to access a copy of the booklet.

Glasgow’s Help Hub

A new Glasgow hub has been created to help people struggling amid the Coronavirus crisis – linking them to organisations and volunteers who are keen to help.

Council and Health and Social Care Partnership staff have teamed up with GCVS, Volunteer Glasgow and Scotland Cares to create a hub which people can contact for help or to volunteer their services.

A new helpline has been set up to act as a single point of contact for anyone seeking or offering help. Volunteers can help  with tasks such as shopping or food delivery or simply having a daily phone call with someone who is being forced to self-isolate.

The helpline will be open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and can be contacted on 0141 345 0543. It is staffed by volunteers from across the partner organisations and demand is expected to be high so please be patient.

If you are interested in volunteering registration is fast and easy. If you have any queries or please get in touch on findvolunteers@volunteerglasgow.org or phone 0141 345 0543.

Dyslexia Support for Home Learning

With the current situation of school closures, we at Hillington Primary understand that you will have concerns about supporting your child with Home Learning activities, especially if your child is dyslexic or going through the dyslexia assessment process. The most important advice that we can give is not to become stressed or worried about this. The activities shared for Home Learning are suitable for all learners.

The best support at home is to listen to your child, take breaks if they are becoming stressed or frustrated and learn what your child enjoys and/or is good at, and focus on that for much of the time away from school.

The link below for the British Dyslexia Association will take you to a section of their website with specific support for the current school closures.

The GDSS (Glasgow Dyslexia Support Service) have a section on their website with ideas and information for parents that can be used for home learning during school closures. Click the link below to access this site.

Home Learning and Dyslexia

Dyslexia is not just about reading and writing. It can affect every area of your life and some days it can make life pretty difficult.

There are plenty of things you can do, though, to make daily life a little easier, less stressful and more enjoyable. At Hillington Primary we support pupils with Dyslexia to ensure they take the most from their learning experiences.

Click on the link below for more information and support for those living with Dyslexia. Dyslexia Unwrapped is a fantastic resource for both children and parents.
