National Youth Orchestras of Scotland – Important Update

Following a wonderful summer season at the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland (NYOS), NYOS are excited to invite your application for next year!  For full details click on the link below and apply by Thursday 29 September.

https://www.nyos.co.uk/classical-applicants/?utm_source=schools_genedu&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=classical2023

Auditions are free and course bursaries of up to 100% are available. Finance should never be a barrier to joining the NYOS community and families are encouraged to apply for a bursary if they are eligible.

2023 will be a year of exploration as NYOS review and respond to the findings from our Soundings consultation. While this process is ongoing, NYOS have announced two changes to the Classical Pathway: in 2023 a NYOS Development Orchestra will replace Juniors and Seniors, and the upper age limit for Symphony Orchestra applications will be 22 years old.

NYOS’s ambition is to ensure that they remain relevant, responsive, accessible and inclusive. NYOS will continue to provide the best orchestral education and performance opportunities for young musicians living and studying in Scotland, as well as those with Scottish connections based further afield. To find out about some of the inspirational music programmed for 2023, go to the programme highlights page of their website.

Health Promoting School Info

Hillington Primary is a health promoting school. Please be mindful of this when providing breaktime snacks for your child. Pupils only have a 15 minute break in the morning and as such will not have time to eat multiple snacks.

Pupils will have access to fresh fruit on selected days during the school week which is provided by Glasgow City Council. We also encourage children in Primary 1-4 to bring a fruity snack to school for the afternoons.

Pupils should also bring a filled water bottle to school which they will have access to and can refill throughout the day. Please note that whilst juice can be brought to school in packed lunches for enjoy at lunchtime, pupils should not bring juice to school in their class water bottles.

We want keep all our children safe. As some members of our school community have severe allergies to nuts we kindly request that families avoid giving pupils products containing nuts for break/lunch for example Kinder Bueno, Peanut Butter, Nutella & Snickers. We kindly ask that you check the ingredients of snacks before allowing your child to bring them to school.

Thank you for your continued support.

Anti-Bullying Education at Hillington Primary

Anti-Bullying Education at Hillington Primary

Now that all pupils have returned to school and are settling into daily learning routines we wanted to update you on one of our key curricular focuses for all classes at Hillington Primary this term.  Every year, at the beginning of term, each class explores the theme of Anti- Bullying. This involves class lessons, discussions and activities about what bullying is, anti bullying terminology, what bullying behaviour can look like, how bullying behaviour impacts on others, how to prevent bullying behaviour and what to do if someone is displaying bullying behaviours. As part of this theme each class also works collaboratively to create a Class Charter. This helps to clearly establish the responsible actions and expectations of all pupils to ensure every child has their rights upheld in particular a child’s right to feel safe.

Our Anti- Bullying (RESPECT) Policy

At Hillington Primary School our values are achieving, nurturing, healthy and kind. We understand that bullying is never acceptable and that children and young people have the right to learn in a safe, secure environment. Our Anti-Bullying Policy provide guidance to pupils, staff, parents and carers of Hillington Primary School in relation to preventing, responding to and reducing bullying behaviour. One of our main functions in school is to equip our pupils for life beyond the classroom. We strive to take pro-active measures designed to increase the self-worth and self-esteem of all our children, enhance their interpersonal skills and help them to cope with life in the wider world to benefit society.

The aims of Hillington Primary’s Anti-Bullying Policy are to ensure:

  • the prevention of bullying through a range of policies, strategies and approaches

  • support is given to children, young people and their parents and carers who are affected by bullying

  • an atmosphere of tolerance, mutual respect, co-operation and consideration is created enabling students to feel safe from fear and threat

  • that everyone is responsible for preventing all forms of bullying

  • support is provided for pupils who are accused of bullying, who may be experiencing problems of their own
