Here are some sheets designed to help with improvising on particular tunes.

Here’s some tips for improvising over all tunes.

1. Music is like speech – leave gaps. This will create phrases.

2. Know the melody of the tune you are playing.

3. If you need inspiration creating a rhythm, think of a few words and use the rhythm implied by saying those words …

4. Create a “shape” for your solo – start off with simpler ideas and ‘build’ the solo by creating tension … eg. faster or more complicated rhythms and/or higher pitches  and/or more ‘outside’ (weirder) sounding note choices.

5. There are no wrong notes – learn to make the weirder sounding notes sound like you mean it! (more about this later)…..
