Here are some sheets designed to help with improvising on particular tunes.
Here’s some tips for improvising over all tunes.
1. Music is like speech – leave gaps. This will create phrases.
2. Know the melody of the tune you are playing.
3. If you need inspiration creating a rhythm, think of a few words and use the rhythm implied by saying those words …
4. Create a “shape” for your solo – start off with simpler ideas and ‘build’ the solo by creating tension … eg. faster or more complicated rhythms and/or higher pitches and/or more ‘outside’ (weirder) sounding note choices.
5. There are no wrong notes – learn to make the weirder sounding notes sound like you mean it! (more about this later)…..
