Monday 1st June

It’s your second favourite teacher here to welcome you into the beautiful month of June (my birthday month!)…no, I’m not Mr. Stewart – RUDE. NO, it’s not Miss Webster either!!! It’s me…Miss Cohen!

How are you all? I hope you soaked up the sunshine this weekend as it was a scorcher! It’s so important to get outside when the sun is shining and get some much needed Vitamin D; have a picnic, play some outdoor games, take a stroll around a local park, read in the great outdoors. If you remember from my videos, I’m not living in Pollokshields at the moment – I am staying in Fort William for another couple of months. Do you know where that is? Check it out on Google Maps and see if you can map where I am, and where I went this weekend on my adventures. I cycled to all of the places I visited, so my legs are achy today ha! Can you calculate how many miles/km I travelled on my bike?

Friday afternoon; Fort William – Brackletter – Spean Bridge – Gairlochy – canal ride home to Fort William.

Sunday afternoon; Fort William – Clunes Park – cycle back to Fort William via Gairlochy.

Do you have any photos you can send me of your weekends? I’d love to see what you’ve been getting upto! Speaking of Loch Arkaig ^^, I have been following the Live Osprey nest cam made available from the Woodland Trust;

https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/trees-woods-and-wildlife/osprey-cam/

The osprey have just hatched two new chicks – with another on the way! It’s incredible to watch these birds and observe their protective, maternal nature. I have also been on the look out for swifts, skylarks and swallows flying through the sky too – because they are a sign of the Summer season starting! Have you spotted these birds before? I’d like to you to research these three species of birds and bullet point three new facts that you have learned about each of them.

Research task

Questions to consider:

-Where have the birds flown from to arrive in the UK for Summer time?

-Do swallows land on the ground or spend the majority of their time air-bound? If this is the case, what do they eat whilst flying?

-How long do skylarks tend to sing over farmland before returning to ground? Why do they sing?

Let me know how you get on with the task!🤗
