Reciprocal Reading Divided City Ch16-19

Song Lyrics

Look at the material in Writer’s Craft 6.1 about song lyrics that were once included in the book. Then carry out the following task in your groups.

Task 1

Look up a copy of the lyrics of You’ll Never Walk Alone on the Internet. Then re-read the passage in Divided City where Theresa Breslin wanted to include the lyrics.

In your group discuss whether the passage would have been better with the lyrics included.

Task 2

In your group read the two versions of the scene carefully and make notes on the changes that Theresa Breslin has made.

Discuss the following:

  • What kind of changes has Theresa Breslin made?
  • How do they improve the way that you read the scene?

Choose one or two of the changes that Theresa Breslin has made and be prepared to explain to the rest of the class how they improve the passage.

  1. GROUP FOUR: Our group thinks that if the lyrics were included in the text it would be better.
We think the reason is it might be more enjoyable to read and you will probably sing along.
We would like this to happen but because of copyright issues it’s probably not going to happen.

  2. Love the Reciprocal Reading
it’s so much fun , i really enjoy it !!!!!!!!!!
