Block Two (January – April 2026)
It’s good to have everyone back for the start of 2026. We have a busy few months with lots of learning planned for Block 2 so I have detailed below much of what we aim to cover this term.
Class Charter
We will continue to use the Class Charter that we created to remind everyone of the expectations of everyone in class. Our charter is linked to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and we refer to them regularly as reminders of what rights we have and how we can all play our part in ensuring everyone has their rights upheld.
Topic
Our topic for this term is the Romans. We will be learning about when and where the Romans lived and the impact they had on Britain, both during their time here and since then. We will be finding out about religion during Roman times and learning about their Gods and Goddesses.
Numeracy and Maths
The topics we are aiming to cover this term are:
- More addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Roman numerals
- Fractions, decimals and percentages
- Time
Literacy
In literacy we will continue to work on writing for different purposes and for different audiences. We will be creating stories and reports and will be learning to take effective and useful notes.
In talking and listening we will be learning about the Scots language and children will be asked to learn and recite a poem for our annual Burns’ Day Competition.
In reading, we will be continuing to practise comprehension skills, looking in more depth and moving beyond literal questions. We will be considering how our own experiences and knowledge can help us to make links and connections in a way that allows us to think critically.
Health and Wellbeing
As part of our health and wellbeing learning we will be covering Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood (RSHP). This term we will be covering the following topics:
- A fair and equal life for boys and girls
- My senses: Things I like, things I don’t like
More information on these topics can be found at: Second Level – RSHP
We will also be learning about healthy eating, personal hygiene and the importance of looking after our mental health.
PE has changed to Wednesdays this term and children should wear their PE clothes to school then.
In PE we will be starting off by learning some Scottish Country Dancing. In a few weeks, we will be lucky to have some helpers from Levenmouth Academy who will be coming in to lead our PE sessions this term.
Reading books will continue to be sent on a Friday and should be returned on a Wednesday, ready to undertake reading groups. Please spend some time going over your child’s reading with them and ensure the books are returned to school on time.
If your child would like to complete some additional homework to help further their learning and understanding, please have a look at the list of websites below which you may find useful.
