Block Two (January – April 2026)
Hello, and welcome to the class page for Primary 2. The class teacher is Miss Ramsay.
Health and Wellbeing
The topics that we will be covering during this block for Health and Wellbeing are:
- My body
- Privacy
These topics are part of the First Level learning outlined by RSHP (Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood).
We regularly discuss our school values – Safe, Ready and Respectful. These values help to form our Recognition Board focus for each week, which is decided on by the children.
We do a weekly check-in on a Friday to discuss the highlights of our week, and the things that we would like to do differently in the next week.
Physical Education
Our gym day is a Wednesday. In P.E this block we will be focusing on:
- Scottish dancing
- Using gym equipment
- Ball skills
- Fitness
- Yoga/stretching
We aim to do our Daily Mile as much as possible (weather dependent!), and we also have regular movement breaks throughout our day.
Literacy
Reading, Listening & Talking and Writing.
This term we will be working on:
- Using connectives – and, but, because, so
- Continuing to revise Jolly Phonics sounds and spelling patterns
- Grammar and comprehension
- Communication with others
- Imaginative writing
- Vowels – long and short vowels
- Asking and answering questions
- Using openers
- Discussion of favourite authors and books (Linked to World Book Day)
- Enjoyment for reading
We also use the Literature Circle Skills to support our literacy lessons. This term we will be working on the Discussion Director and Questioner skill.
Homework
Homework is handed out on a Friday and should be completed by the following Wednesday. Children are provided with a reading book and a word wall of common words to practise. Please ensure that your child brings their homework folder into school every day as we use these regularly throughout the week.
Numeracy and Mathematics
This term we will be working on:
- Number and number processes
- Subtraction
- Revision of money
- Information Handling
- Measurement
- Skip counting
We use our maths workbooks to support us when engaging in maths lessons. We have also started using our maths jotters, helping us to work more independently in numeracy and to focus on jotter expectations. We have been doing a great job so far!
Topic
Our topic for this term is The Magic Castle. We have started by thinking about all our prior knowledge on the topic and have asked questions about the things that we would like to find out about. We will make links to other areas of the curriculum when engaging in topic lessons.
Online links
Here are some links to online resources that can be used to support your child’s learning. We use these regularly throughout our week:
- Topmarks: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/
- Doorway Online: https://www.doorwayonline.org.uk/
- BBC Bitesize: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize
On these links you can find various resources and games linked to the different areas of the curriculum.
