Block One (August – December 2025)
Hello, and welcome to the class page for Primary 2! The class teacher is Miss Ramsay.
Health and wellbeing
The topics that we will be covering during this block for Health and Wellbeing are:
- Friends and friendship
- People who help and look after me
These topics are part of the First Level learning outlined by RSHP (Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood).
We regularly discuss our school values daily – Safe, Ready and Respectful. These values help to form our Recognition Board focus for each week, which is decided on by the children.
We also plan on having our weekly class meetings on a Friday to review our week. We will discuss the things that we have enjoyed and the things that we want to improve on or change.
Physical Education
Our gym day is a Wednesday. In P.E this block we will be focusing on:
- Group games
- Team/partner work
- Using gym equipment
- Dance
- Gymnastics
We aim to do our Daily Mile as much as possible (weather dependent!), and we always have regular movement breaks throughout our day.
Literacy
Reading, Listening & Talking, and Writing.
This term we will be working on:
- Revision of Jolly Phonics sounds.
- Enjoyment and reading for pleasure.
- Engaging with fiction/non-fiction.
- Initial and final consonant blends.
- Sentence structure – using success criteria, e.g., capital letters, full stops, finger spaces.
- Using conjunctions.
- Listening and talking to others in group scenarios.
- Alphabetical ordering.
Within reading, we will continue to develop our use of blending strategies to help to decode unfamiliar words in a text. We regularly practise our tricky words and words appropriate for each stage of reading. We will also be learning key words related to our topic.
We use the literature circle skills to support reading lessons. In Block 1 we will be focusing on the Predictor and Summariser skill.
