Block 1 (August – December 2025)

P1 is a class of 24 children which can be found on the bottom floor. We strive to follow our school values safe, ready and respectful. We have a recognition board with a weekly target, we try our very best to get on the board each day.

In literacy, we are following the Jolly Phonics programme to learn our sounds. We are working on identifying, saying and writing our sounds.  As we progress through block 1 we will also learn to blend sounds together to read words and begin to learn our tricky words. Everyday after break, we have milk/water and story. We listen to the story carefully so we can answer Miss McComiskie’s question at the end.

In numeracy, we are learning to count, read, write and represent numbers. We will also begin adding numbers as we progress through the block. In maths, we will be working on shape and money.

Our topic this term is Toys. We want to learn lots about the different toys you can play with and how they work. We also want to share our favourite toys and why we like them so much.

Our PE day is a Monday and we aim to come to school in our PE clothes. This block we are going to be working on throwing and catching and dance.

As part of our health and wellbeing learning, children in P1 will be covering Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood (RSHP). This term we will be covering: Friends and Friendships, Playing Together, Being Kind and When I Feel Sad or Upset. We hope any questions you have can be answered through the national resource https://rshp.scot/.

In P1, homework goes home daily as we progress through the jolly phonics programme. Children should aim to return their homework each morning.
