Learning Overview for Primary 7b
Literacy
WRITING: We will be developing our ability to create texts for a variety of purposes. This will include factual/informative writing around our 7 Wonders of the Ancient World topic. We will also be using our persuasive writing skills to ask local business’ for donations for our business enterprise.
We are aiming to review written pieces to correct any errors and ensure our writing makes sense all the way through, is technically accurate and meets its purpose.
We will build on existing skills in note taking, organising and using these in a variety of layouts and for specific purposes.
SPELLING: A focus will be on ensuring we are using taught spelling rules consistently to enable us to spell most words correctly.
We will also be learning specialist vocabulary linked to other areas of the curriculum. E.g topic, measuring and finance.
READING: Responding to a range of literal, inferential and evaluative questions will give us the opportunity to show our understanding or a range of texts read including our group reading books.
LISTENING & TALKING: Our main focus this term is on selecting suitable vocabulary for our audience to create a presentation for our Enterprise Business idea for a Dragons’ Den style meeting.

Numeracy and Mathematics
NUMERACY: We will be focusing on place value including ordering and rounding to develop our understanding of number, applying this to increasingly larger numbers. We will also be working on solving adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing problems using both written and mental strategies. We will continue to focus on our times/dividing tables and work on developing our problem-solving skills to solve various types of word problems.
MATHEMATICS: We will be working on measure this term creating links to our IDL where possible to apply our measuring skills to real life contexts. Our enterprise theme will enable us to develop our understanding of money and finance at a deeper level and give us a practical opportunity to use the vocabulary of finance.

Health and Wellbeing
P.E Our PE days are every Thursday afternoon with muga slots on a Friday morning.
Health: We will be focusing on all 3 aspect of health and wellbeing: physical, emotional and mental. We will use a range of emotion works, the Treehouse app and activities to develop our understanding of how to promote healthy living through the choices we make.

Our Topic(s) will be about…
Aug-Oct: 7 Wonders of the Ancient World We will investigate man-made structures from ancient, classical civilizations taking a look at the societies that existed at that time. Activities will include creating fact files on each, designing tourist brochures and answering key questions, such as… · Who built them? · Why? · What was their purpose?
Oct-Dec: Dragon’s Den/Enterprise We will learn about how to create a business plan to present to others on an idea we have for a business. This will involve costing materials, producing these and calculating the prices of our product for selling. Our plan is to put together a small-scale Christmas Fayre for the P7 parents and McLean pupils to attend. After the fayre we will use our finance skills to determine whether our venture(s) were profitable ones.
