Learning Overview for Primary 7a

 

Literacy

WRITING:

Re-vising VCOP (vocabulary, connectives, sentence openers and punctuation) to up-level written pieces.

We will focus on sentence structures for editing and assessing pieces. Creating longer pieces of writing on the apps on our ipads will allow pupils to develop these skills at a deeper level.

 

SPELLING:

A focus will be on ensuring we are using taught spelling rules consistently to enable us to spell most words correctly.

We are continuing to look at specialist terminology to describe types of words. For example, homonyms, heteronyms, homophones.

We will also be learning specialist vocabulary linked to other areas of the curriculum.

 

READING:

Through our class and group novels, we will continue to enhance our understanding of texts read by answering various types of questions.

We will apply a range of reading skills and strategies to read and understand texts, for example, skimming, scanning, predicting, clarifying and/or summarising.

 

LISTENING & TALKING:

As part of our topic we will be holding debates and developing our ability to ask and answer questions, building on the ideas of others.

 

Numeracy and Mathematics

NUMERACY:

We will be learning to use the terms factors and multiples to:

·         discuss the relationship between them

·         Identify them from a range of numbers

·         support calculations

·

Develop our understanding of the required order to solve calculations requiring more than 1 operation.

 

Fractions, decimals and percentages.

 

Links to sumdog, Top Marks, Mathsbot and various apps to support learning will be added to the ipads as we progress through the term.

 

MATHEMATICS:

Focal point for this term will be shape, position and movement including compass points, angles and calculating areas and perimeters.

 

 

 Health and Wellbeing

P.E

Our PE days are every Thursday afternoon with muga slots on a Friday morning.

 

We are focusing on developing gymnastic skills such as moving across the floor using different positions, making shapes using our bodies, using core muscles in holds and keeping our postures stable on or over objects.

 

Health:

We will be looking at Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood using the RSHP resources from Progression 2 section at https://rshp.scot/second-level/

Sessions will include:

·         my body

·         menstruation

·         pregnancy

·

Our Topic will be about…

The Scottish Parliament and Elections

Students will explore the roles of the Scottish Parliament and the Scottish Parliament in Scotland.

We will be looking at …

·         understanding the law-making process

·         how elections are held

·         the significance of key political figures and roles

·         developing our debating skills

·         holding a mock election
