Learning Overview for Primary6/7
Literacy
WRITING: We will be working on persuasive writing this term, engaging in the techniques and vocabulary to make this most effective.
We will also work on personal writing, using our own experiences as a basis for writing pieces, understanding the difference between past and present tense and writing in the first person.
READING: · We are developing decision making skills by reading information from various sources. · We are developing our awareness of the techniques writers use to influence us.
LISTENING & TALKING: · We can deliver a talk of appropriate detail and length. · We are working on talking clearly, audibly, at an appropriate pace and occasionally varying the tone.
|
Numeracy and Mathematics
NUMERACY: · We will continue to solve problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. · We also plan to cover fractions, percentages and decimals.
MATHEMATICS: · We are solving problems involving time, ensuring that we understand units of time and can calculate how much time will elapse between particular events. We will use real-life examples such as transport timetables. · We will also work on a money/finance-based topic, again using real-life examples to bring this to life and connecting it to our decimals and percentages work.

P.E We will demonstrate our ability to select, adapt and apply movement skills and strategies, creatively, accurately and with control in an athletics context.
Health: Through our RSHP programme we are learning about: · making choices and decisions. · looking after their body and keeping clean. · puberty and how the bodies and emotions of both girls and boys change as they grow.
Outdoor Learning: We are developing our risk assessment, map reading and navigation skills. |
Topics
Scotland Through the Decades We are going to continue with this topic for the first few weeks as it has provided such rich learning opportunities. This extension of the topic will allow the pupils to take the learning up to the end of the 20th century.
Country Study We will then move on to a topic based on a country of each pupil’s choice, encouraging independent research, selecting relevant information and working on presentation skills to share learning with peers.
