P6/7

Teacher – Mrs Neilon

Literacy

We will be learning to find, select and sort relevant information from a range of sources and organise these notes under appropriate headings. We will be developing our understanding of identifying key points, changing these into our own words and reference where our information has come from. These will then be used to create our own texts.

We will be working on Functional Writing this block with a particular focus on report writing (linking to our science topic).  We will also be thinking about advertising and persuasive writing.

We are continuing to learn new spelling rules and patterns each week which will help us to spell more difficult words.

Numeracy and Mathematics

NUMERACY:

We have revised our knowledge of place value. We will also be working on different strategies (jump strategy, split strategy and column method) for addition and subtraction equations. This will develop skills in problem solving using written and mental strategies. We will also be developing our skills in multiplication and division by learning new strategies and completing challenging equations.

MATHEMATICS:

We will be learning about Measure, developing our understanding of area and volume of shapes/objects. This will be extended to conversion between units of measure and use of appropriate equipment such as scales, thermometers and beakers.

We will also be learning about Data Handling and how to record data accurately and then interpret it.

 Health and Wellbeing

P.E

We are investigating different aspects of fitness through our outdoor PE sessions and circuit training indoors. We are setting personal goals as part of our target to improve fitness.

We plan to continue developing our speed, strength and stamina by working in groups to create a dance sequence to after the October holidays. The aim is to perform this in front of our classmates

Health:

We are learning about the effect on the body as a result of smoking, drinking alcohol and other drug misuse as well as identifying risks associated with these.
