Learning Overview for Primary 6
Literacy
WRITING: We will be working on persuasive writing linking this into peer pressure from H&WB resources & how to complete a CV. We will create our own scripts to perform to our peers and work on extending our understanding on various types of poetry.
SPELLING: We will continue to focus on spelling rules including syllables within words to improve accuracy.
READING: We will be working on finding evidence in texts to support our answers giving reasons for our choices. We will also be looking to make comparisons and connections with other texts we have read from our group/class readers.
LISTENING & TALKING: We will be focusing on developing our confidence in speaking to an audience by delivering presentations on a topic of our choosing to our peers. This will give us an opportunity to take on board the feedback we received from our previous presentations to improve in this area. |
Numeracy and Mathematics
NUMERACY: We will be focusing on longer multiplication and division problems using known mental and written strategies. We will look at negative numbers. We plan to revisit fractions and decimals and link these to percentages.
MATHEMATICS: Information handling is the focus of mathematics this term. We will be generating and analysing visual data such as tables, graphs and charts as well as undertaking surveys to research, present and analyse our findings. We will also look at symmetry and tiling.

Health and Wellbeing
P.E. We are working on sustaining our levels of fitness and our ability to talk about the difference between stamina, strength, flexibility and speed. This will be covered through the context of athletics.
Health: We will be looking at Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood using the RSHP resources from https://rshp.scot/second-level/ We will be using the second level resources for this that will include… · identifying the changes we go through during puberty · how to make positive friendships · equality · completing the units of parenting we began last term

Our Topic will be about…
Mining We will be looking at mining through the ages including coal, salt and precious gems. This will also involve comparing renewable and non-renewable energy, mining disasters and health issues linked to mining for various substances.
