Learning Overview for Primary 4/5

 

Literacy

WRITING: We will be working on writing to convey information related to our topic. This will take the form of Newspapers and reports. In addition, we will also learn how to write to share opinion/persuade. We will continue to work on writing in paragraphs.

SPELLING: We will be continuing to extend our skills using spelling skills by looking at a variety of spelling patterns and using a different  activities to help us learn them. We will look at prefixes and suffixes.

 

READING:  We will be working on answering and creating different types of questions with a focus on literal and inferential questions. We are will also be working on the difference between fact and opinion.

Numeracy and Mathematics

NUMERACY:

We will be finishing off learning in multiplication and division by looking at multiples and factors. For mental maths, we will be continue to work on our times tables.

We will then move on to extending our skills in our work in fractions where we will learn about equivalent fractions, improper fractions and mixed numbers. Following that we will do some work on decimals building on from knowledge gained in Term 1.

 

MATHEMATICS:  We are going to be learning about money and how to spend money sensibly. We will be participating in a Money Marvels Workshop with Lloyds Banking.

We will do some work on Shape, Position and movement.

 Health and Wellbeing

P.E  In PE we will do a block of Dance to start the term. We are aiming to learn at least one Scottish Country Dance, The Dashing White Sergeant  Then we will work on modern dance. Moving on to work with racquets and then a block of Gymnastics.

 

 

Health: We will be working on Kitbag this term with a daily check in on how we are feeling.  We will also be continuing to focus on Rights of the Child and being aware of what can be done to meet children’s rights.

Our Topic will be about…..

Our topic this term is ‘Energy and Sustainabilty’. During the topic we will be exploring and researching sources of Energy: renewable and non-renewable. While also thinking about ways energy is wasted and how we can conserve energy. There will then be a focus on sustainability: what it is and how we can live more sustainably. We will link this to using more sustainable energy sources while also thinking about how we can make our food choices more sustainable.
