Learning Overview for Primary….
Literacy
WRITING: We will be working on improving our tools for writing using different landmarks around the world as our stimulus. We will be working on improving our VCOP strategies: vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation. As well as starting to write in paragraphs. We will also be writing for information and completing Fact Files about different countries around the world.
SPELLING: We will be continuing to extend our skills using spelling skills by looking at a variety of spelling patterns and using a different activities to help us learn them.
READING: We will be working on our comprehension skills this term using different strategies to support our understanding of a text. We will be taking on Book Detective tasks to help us start to improve our skills in analyzing a text. We will be also developing our skimming and scanning skills to help us find information quickly. |
Numeracy and Mathematics
NUMERACY: We will be extending our knowledge of place value up to 6 digit numbers and decimals to one decimal place. While working on our skills with place value, we will also use our strategies for rounding numbers. We will also be extending our skills in addition and subtraction and practising different strategies for this.
MATHEMATICS:
We will be doing work on time, length and area, position and movement and making links to different areas of our topic.

Health and Wellbeing
P.E In PE we will work on our fitness skills to begin with. We are then going to move on to work on ball skills. We will then look at how these skills transfer into a game situation.
Health: We will be using Tree of Knowledge resources and introducing Kitbag to our classroom. We will also be continuing to focus on being a Rights Respecting School and how we continue to make sure that everyone has access to their rights.

Our Topic will be about…..
Our topic this term is ‘Our Wonderful World’. Starting by thinking about Scotland and it’s place in the UK, we are then going to learn about the continents that make up the world. While we are looking at each continent, we are going to talk about the 7 Wonders of the World. We will develop our mapwork skills and our research skills while finding out about all of these. Near the end of our topic, we will be learning how Christmas is celebrated in different countries. |
