Learning Overview for Primary P4b

Literacy

WRITING: This term, our writing will centre on identifying facts and opinions, skimming and scanning texts, and taking effective notes. We’ll use these skills and knowledge from our space topic to produce fact files, newspaper writing, and reports, along with pieces designed to inform, express viewpoints, and persuade others.

SPELLING: We will continue to work on words that use the same letter patterns and use different activities to enhance the learning of our words.

READING: We will continue to work on our comprehension skills this term using different strategies to support our understanding of text.

Numeracy and Mathematics

NUMERACY:  We will be developing our understanding of multiplication and division, exploring different strategies to solve a range of problems. Alongside this, we will also be extending our knowledge of fractions and practising how to work with them confidently.

MATHEMATICS:

We will be doing work on Maths and its importance on the world, shape and data analysis and making links to different areas of our topic, Space.

 Health and Wellbeing

P.E: In PE we will then focus on a range of indoor activities, including dance, racquet skills, and gymnastics, building control, coordination, and confidence. We will also work on our football skills outdoors, learning how to use these techniques effectively and understanding how they can be applied in game situations.

Health: We will be continuing to focus on being a Rights Respecting School and how we continue to make sure that everyone has access to their rights. We are going to continue to use and learn about meta skills. We will also be focussing on Tree of Knowledge and Emotion Works.

Our Topic will be about….

Our topic this term is Space. We will explore our solar system, learning about the planets, stars, and other celestial objects. We will also look closely at what astronaut’s experience in space and how technology helps us discover more about the universe. Through computational thinking and technology, we will investigate how space probes, satellites, and rovers work. As part of Health Schools, we will learn about keeping our bodies healthy, comparing life on Earth to the challenges of staying healthy in space. We will also consider the impact humans have beyond our planet and think about how we can care for space environments responsibly.
