Learning Overview for Primary4

Literacy

WRITING:

We are learning how to write persuasively. All of us will an introduction, conclusion and connectives to link our ideas together. Most of us will use a range of facts and opinions to support our ideas.  Some of us will use rhetorical questions to strengthen our arguments.

SPELLING & PHONICS:

This term we will be learning about suffixes and prefixes. A suffix is added to a root word at the end, for example, -ness, -full, -ly. A prefix is added to the beginning of a root word, for example, -un, -dis, -under.

READING:

This term we will learn the difference between fact and opinion. We will continue our literacy circle jobs to deepen our understanding of our reading books. We are almost finished our class novel the Wild Robot.

LISTENING & TALKING:

Our main focus over term four will be listening to others respectfully and sharing our ideas to others using gesture, expression and pace.

Numeracy and Mathematics

NUMERACY:

All of us will be learning our 2, 5- and 10-times tables. Most of us will learn our 4 and 8. Some of us will learn our 6- and 9-times table. Everyone will start to link multiplication and division together creating fact families. All of us will investigate different number patterns.

 

MATHEMATICS:

During this term we will be looking at different ways to record and display data and information recorded in a variety of ways. Everyone will learn about how to give directions using compass points and co-ordinates.

 Health and Wellbeing

P.E: Our PE days are every Tuesday. This term we will be practising for Sports Day.

 

Health: We will be learning about healthy, sustainable eating. All of us will learn about how food advertising can persuade us to buy unhealthy foods.

 

Outdoor Learning: We will be planning a 3 week visit to the woods this term. Miss Stevenson will send a letter to parent and carers with more information.

 

Our Topic

 

We will finish our sustainability topic by learning about renewable energy and sustainable food sources.

 

Towards the end of term Primary 4 will enjoy a mini topic about Native American Indians.
