Literacy:

Writing – Primary ¾ will be working on improving our tools for writing using different landmarks from around the world as our stimulus. Our focus for writing will be informational based on our topic. In term 2, we will also be learning letter writing and use it to communicate with pen pals in New Mexico, America. We will be focusing on improving our VCOP (Vocabulary, Connectives, Openers and Punctuation) strategies with a specific focus on punctuating our sentences correctly. All of us will use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. Most of us will use exclamation and question marks. Some of us will use commas and speech marks.

Reading – We will focus on comprehension through our individual and class story books. We will talk about what to look for when choosing a book, such as, the front cover, the author and illustrator and the blurb. We will be working on comprehension skills using different strategies such as questioning and summarisation of a text. We will also be using Book Detective tasks to help improve our skills in analysing a text.

Numeracy – Our main focus during term one will be place value (the value of each digit represented into hundreds, tens and ones). Some of us will count to 10,000 and beyond. Most of us will keep practising our understanding of numbers to 1000. From there, everyone will learn about estimation and rounding. Towards the end of term one, we will learn adding and subtraction double and triple-digits.

Maths – In term one we will be learning about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. We will also be learning about time and how the 12-hour links to the 24-hour notation.

Topic – Our topic this term is ‘Our Wonderful World.’ We have started with the continents to get a wide-angle lens of the world. We will explore the 7 World Wonders and identify which country they are within each continent. We will be developing our mapwork and research skills as we learn about each of the 7 World Wonders. Towards the end of our topic, we will be embedding RME as we look at the celebrations of Diwali and Christmas around the world.

HWB – Our PE slot will be every Thursday. Mrs. Chalmers will teach PE every second Monday. Mrs. Thames will will teach us every Thursday and begin with fitness skills through stations. Most of the term will focus on yoga and its benefits to our body and mind. We will have a local yoga instructor lead our first session. We will take part in Fairtrade Fortnight which takes place 9th September- 22nd September. We will learn more about the farmers who grow the food we consume and the crops that make our clothes and why it is important they get paid fairly.

Modern Languages – For languages, we will be learning French this term. We will be building our French vocabulary through song and rhyme, as well as simple dialogue.
