Care and Welfare

Your child’s care and welfare is a wide ranging topic.

Child Protection

All children and young people in Fife have a right to be cared for and protected. We all have a part to play to ensure that you are safe and your needs are met. Here in Fife, we believe that “child protection is everyone’s job and everyone’s responsibility”.

The Child Protection and Safeguarding for Parents Carers explains what parents/carers can do if they have a concern about a child and what the school will do.

Prevent

Prevent aims to reduce the threat to the UK from terrorism by stopping people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. This is known as radicalisation. Early intervention is key. It looks at safeguarding adults and children and diverting them from being drawn into terrorist activity.

Prevent is one of the key pillars of the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy, CONTEST. Its aim is to reduce the risk from terrorism in the UK, so that people can go about their lives freely and with confidence.

Friends and family are best placed to spot the signs, so trust your instincts. More important than any one specific sign is the sense that something is not quite right with the person you are worried about.

Neglect

Neglect is one of the most common and persistent forms of harm to children in Scotland. It’s often chronic, cumulative and hidden in plain sight. Reviews repeatedly show that neglect can become normalised and practitioners, families and even communities can become desensitised to the child’s ongoing experience of harm.
