Learning Overview for Primary 4

Literacy

WRITING:

We are learning how to write creatively. We will use the tools for writing to help us create our own short stories and poems. To make our writing come alive we will learn to use similes, and alliteration. We will also focus on reading over our work to check for mistakes and make improvements.

SPELLING & PHONICS:

This term we will be learning about suffixes and prefixes. A suffix is added to a root word at the end, for example, -ness, -full, -ly. A prefix is added to the beginning of a root word, for example, -un, -dis, -under.

READING:

This term we will learn the difference between fact and opinion. We will continue to identify the main idea of a text by exploring poems, short stories and non-fiction.

LISTENING & TALKING:

Our main focus over term four will be listening to others respectfully and sharing our ideas to others using gesture, expression and pace.

Numeracy and Mathematics

NUMERACY:

Our main focus during term three will be to reinforce our 2,3,4,5,6,8 and 10 times tables through multiplication and division activities. We will also revisit strategies for addition and subtraction.

MATHEMATICS:

During this term we will be looking at different ways to record and display data and information recorded in a variety of ways. We will also look at measurement.

 Health and Wellbeing

P.E: Our PE days are every Tuesday and every second Monday. Dates are on seesaw.

Health: We will be looking at how human life begins and online safety using the RSHP website. We will also watch videos from the tree of knowledge and talk about ways to build resilience.

Outdoor Learning: We will enjoy maths, literacy and mindfulness activities in the quad and playground. We will also be taking trips in the local area to reinforce our Biodiversity topic.

Our Topic will be about…..

Biodiversity

According to WWF Biodiversity can be defined as…

Biodiversity is all the different kinds of life you’ll find in one area—the variety of animals, plants, fungi, and even microorganisms like bacteria that make up our natural world. Each of these species and organisms work together in ecosystems, like an intricate web, to maintain balance and support life. Biodiversity supports everything in nature that we need to survive: food, clean water, medicine, and shelter
