Teacher – Mrs Thames
Literacy
WRITING: This term, we will be learning about first person narrative writing. We will use this to write diary entries for the fictional characters we have created for our topic. We will focus on writing effective descriptions to make our readers more interested.
SPELLING: We will continue to extend our spelling skills by looking at a variety of spelling patterns and use different activities to help us learn them.
READING: We will continue to develop our comprehension skills with different reading tasks. We will work on identifying the main ideas of texts and practice developing our skills to make appropriate suggestions about the purpose of a text. |
Numeracy and Mathematics
NUMERACY: We will be learning about fractions and taking part in practical activities to support our learning. We will also use our knowledge of division to help us find how a single item can be shared equally and learn the notation and vocabulary associated with fractions.
MATHEMATICS: We will begin the term by learning about time. We will learn how to tell time using 12-hour clocks, and how it links with 24-hour notation. Additionally, we are going to learn about data and analysis by collecting data and creating different types of graphs. We will also look at computer software programs that help us generate a graph. We will finish the term by learning elements of measure such as weight and capacity and explore these actively. |
Health and Wellbeing
P.E: In P.E., we are going to work on our athletics. We will also be working on playing team games and thinking about what it means to be an effective team player.
HEALTH: We will be introducing Meta Skills this term. We will gain a better understanding of each skill and look at our strengths and areas of development in self-management, social intelligence, and innovation. We will also learn more about what makes a healthy relationship. We will focus on understanding the positive things about friendships and how they are formed. We will also talk about healthy boundaries within a relationship. |
Topic: The Wild West
By using a storyline, we will be exploring the western region of the United States by travelling back in time to the 1800’s. Through social studies, we will be comparing aspects of people’s daily lives back then to our own. Beginning with Native American culture, we will move through history to when the settlers and cowboys arrived and how this changed the cultural landscape. We will learn about significant figures during this time and how their impact can still be seen today. Our topic will incorporate: ICT, literacy, social studies, geography, expressive arts, STEM and include articles of the UNCRC. |
