Dear Parent / Carer,
Welcome to this weeks Rector’s Log and the final one this session. I hope you and your family are doing well!
The week that’s been…
What a busy and enjoyable week it has been here at KHS.
Last Saturday, young people and staff returned to Scotland from their trip to Madrid. A great time was had by all over a very busy but enjoyable few days. A number of people commented to staff on how kind and respectful our young people were. Glad the trip was a success and well done to all for representing our school and community so well!
On Monday, we welcomed Maria Lloyd, Head of Service for Secondary Schools, to KHS to work with key groups of staff. It was great to work alongside Maria as we observed some learning and supported colleagues in various aspects of school.
On Tuesday, we welcomed our new S1 for a sneak preview of our school show – Matilda JR. All the young people were suitably impressed by the cast and crew!
On Wednesday, Matilda JR. kicked off to an expectant audience and the cast and crew did not disappoint. It was a fantastic performance, and we were all left suitable amazed and proud of all who took part and supported the show. Last night was no exception, with another outstanding show. If you haven’t been to see it, tonight is the last performance – don’t miss out! Well done to everyone who has helped supported and to those taking part.
Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending Capshard Primary School P7 leavers show with 4 former Capshard pupils. It was a superb show, and the young people were fantastic. We are really looking forward to you joining KHS in August! Well done to all who took part and to the amazing staff at Capshard for their work and support too.
As always, you can read more about all the goings on in our blog.
A wee update from Ms Black and our Supported Learning department:
“In Supported Learning this week we continue our consistent routines to ensure learning continues and keep us settled going into the last week of term. SLD2 continue with their Polycrub work and monitoring and caring for their sunflowers. Casey’s is the tallest at 46cm! These will be coming home next week and we would love to see photos of them as the continue growing. SLD4 have continued their John Muir work with Mrs Logan and have been litter picking near the school. They have not just cleaned up an area but have been thinking about the impact on the environment and wildlife and have gathered data for analysis.
A huge well done and we’re so very proud of you shout out to Ellie who attended her first day of College for induction onto the level 4 Hair and Beauty course. You are an absolutely great ambassador for the school, and we have no doubt this is a very exciting addition to your learning journey. Very proud of you Ellie.”
Our House Point winners are…Oswald House! On Tuesday and Wednesday next week, the winners of our House point competition will take part in various reward activities. Well done to all!
Please find an overview of our school improvement priorities for next session. Greater detail can be found in the full draft School Improvement Plan for session 2025/26 and Standards and Quality Report. Both will be available on our school website from Monday. We will share a link to gather your views in the end of session letter next week.
Lastly, thank you to all our community for your feedback on our renewed Vision, Values and Aims (VVA). The consultation around this closed today and I will update you next week with the agreed VVA in the end of session letter once this feedback is considered.
The week ahead…
Next week is the final week of the session and school finishes at 3.25pm on Thursday 3rd July 2025. We will have a non-uniform day on the last day and young people can donate to support a good cause if they are able.
We re-open to young people on Wednesday 20th August 2025 at the usual time.
I hope you and your family have a great weekend and enjoy the summer break when it comes! Thank you to all our families, young people, colleagues and community for your continued support across the session.
Best wishes,
Chris McKay
