Over the last two weeks we have had three new groups start with the Community Trade Hub. That’s 29 young people gaining experience and getting exposure to the working world all whilst gaining a nationally recognised qualification in a safe and secure environment. They will each spend ten weeks in their chosen area developing a variety of skills and qualities which they can chose to transfer back into life after the Trade Hub. These opportunities often give our young people a better understanding of what it would be like to be a mechanic, tradesperson, or chef helping them navigate options for the working world.
We have had mechanics working on small engines, learning how to strip them down, identify if they need oil changes, check pressure on the tyres and complete a full tyre change including valves.
Our tradespeople have been challenged by various tool tests in the workshop, from investigating accuracy with a tape measure to how to safely use hand and power tools.
Whilst our chefs have been tested by holding a BBQ for another school, their staff and the Trade Hub supervisors. They have worked as a team but also displayed great resilience to work alone and follow recipes.
The young people continue to develop both personally and professionally, given them the opportunity to increase motivation, engagement, and enthusiasm to set goals and aspirations.
It’s great to see young people making the most of this opportunity and all whilst smiling. We hope that they can positively represent themselves and our school community with pride over the remaining weeks. We encourage them to grab all opportunities presented to them with both hands and rise to the group challenges set toward the end of their ten weeks.
