Week Beginning 21st September 2026

Monday

At story time, we listened to Me, Myself and I. The children took part in discussions about differences, identifying what makes each of us unique while celebrating and valuing these differences and helping to build self confidence.

In the garden, some children explored letters and numbers through play. They demonstrated curiosity as they matched numbers and letters, supporting their learning  outdoors.

Tuesday

Following on from last week’s role-play interest in creating cupcakes, some of the children further developed their mathematical and food preparation skills by making real cupcakes. They followed the recipe, taking turns to add ingredients and stir the mixture and used to clock for timing.

In the garden, some children have shown an interest in exploring forces through water play and investigating different sounds. In response to this interest, a selection of pots and pans was added to the outdoor area to encourage further exploration. The children used force in a variety of ways, such as banging, tapping, and striking the objects, while investigating the different sounds they produced.

There continues to be a strong interest in fairies, which has been expressed through a range of experiences across the nursery. In the art area, children have used natural materials to developing their creative skills to design and make fairy-themed creations. This interest has also supported with children using technology to type, identify letters, and create signs for a fairy village.

Thursday

Today, we learned a new seasonal song and took part in singing it outdoors. The art area continues to be a busy  with creating fairy houses. Children independently selected a variety of materials, explored different shapes, and demonstrated creativity and problem-solving skills as they designed and constructed their creations.

Friday

Today, we explored mark making in the sand area, encouraging children to experiment with creating patterns, shapes, and marks using a variety of tools. During role play, the children enjoyed making “cupcakes” in the sand developing imagination and communication skills sharing their flavours.
