Ferryport News – September 2026 

Welcome to Ferryport Nursery!
We would like to extend a warm welcome to both our new and returning families. Our monthly newsletter will keep you updated with important information, news, and key dates for your diary. 

Nursery Blog – Each Friday, our nursery staff create a weekly blog which is published on the nursery website. A link is also shared on Seesaw, giving families a variety of ways to access it. The blog provides a snapshot of the children’s interests, experiences, and learning throughout the week, helping parents and carers stay connected with what has been happening in nursery. 

Key Workers – Over the coming days, if this has not already happened, your child’s Key Worker will introduce themselves and arrange a short welcome meeting with you. This provides an opportunity to discuss your child’s interests, needs, and how we can best support them during their time at Ferryport Nursery. 

While each child is assigned a named Key Worker, all members of staff work closely together and share responsibility for the care, wellbeing, and learning of every child. Please feel free to speak to any member of the team if you have any questions or queries. 

Seesaw – Our new families should now have received a personalised code to access Seesaw, our communication platform. 

Seesaw is used in a variety of ways to help keep you connected with your child’s nursery experience. We use it to share children’s achievements and learning, celebrate successes, provide reminders about upcoming events, and share important nursery updates. Children also enjoy contributing by sharing their own photos, videos, and voice recordings. 

If you are having any difficulties accessing Seesaw, please speak to a member of staff. We will be happy to help you get connected. 

Nursery Renovations – We hope you like the renovations that the nursery undertook during the summer. There are still some minor issues to be resolved re furniture etc and we thank you for your patience and cooperation during this time. We hope to have these issues resolved soon! 

Gate Safety – Can we please remind ALL parents/carers to please make sure they bolt the side gates, when entering/leaving the nursery, using the top bolt. Thank You. 

Illness- As it is coming into cough and cold season, can we please remind you that if your child feels unwell and requires paracetamol based medication i.e Calpol, can we please ask that you keep your child at home. This will help minimise the spread of infection to other children and staff.  

Clothing Reminder – We would be very grateful if you could ensure that all clothing and personal belongings are clearly labelled with your child’s name. With lots of children in nursery, this helps staff return items quickly to their owners and reduces the likelihood of belongings being misplaced. Thank you for your support.

Monday

It has been a busy start to our week with lots of  outdoor play, we have been exploring with water in the garden floating/sinking, using different resources to see what sinks. We have been learning all about SIMO & how we keep ourselves safe in nursery & when we are out. The children then spent the afternoon role playing with the hi-viz vest & the stop sign to help them process what they learned.

Tuesday

Play dough has been popular with most of the children where the created birthday cakes soup & many more beautiful dishes. They are developing their language skills as well as building friendships. Some children have been interested in measure 📏 using the tape to measure different body parts. We used chalk outside to draw round each other then chatted about who was bigger/ smaller as well as different shapes of bodies. Helping then understand that we are all different.

Wednesday

We have been learning some sign along today helping us develop language & communication with each other.  There has been lots of role playing in the house corner playing families . They have been using the doctors kit to help each other  with many different injuries.
Our rocking horse is still very popular with all the children allowing them to view their environment from a different height .

 

Thursday

The bikes have been busy with a road being chalked out they then added a round about into the play. They chatted about keeping safe on the bikes & when people could cross their road. At the art area some beautiful art work has been created. We are starting to decorate our play house walls with all the paintings.

Friday

Lots of role playing along with adding some new resources to the garden, we added a large mirror to the mud kitchen this prompted lots of curiosity. Some of the children have helped to start to clean down the garden as they want to make the mud kitchen a cafe environment.
