Monday

Today we continued to build on last week’s interest in coloured playdough. Some children engaged in mark making, using the opportunity to discuss numbers. A tally chart was introduced to record each child’s choice. At the playdough station, children used mathematical language, referring to concepts such as volume and adding as they explored and created.

Tuesday

Many children took part in imaginative role play using food items they had created from art materials, including ice creams, cones, cakes and pizzas. Some children explored shape, identifying circles within the environment. They drew around these shapes and used scissors to cut them out, developing their fine motor skills. The circles were then used to create pizzas, discussing their favourite toppings. This then developed into role play of “delivery!”

Outdoors, a large bubble station was created using a hula hoop, providing opportunities for children to negotiate turn-taking and practise fair sharing. Children supported one another and celebrated each other’s successes.

Wednesday

The water tray and ball station was set up outside which created a lot of interest discussing, sizes and force. This created a fun sensory experiences for a child who was directing the water play to watch force of splashing.

Sensory experience with playdough followed on from Mondays interest of changing colours and tallying our peers favourite colour choice. This then sparked a conversation about using a sensory experience of smelling. Adding flavouring to change the smell.  The children then chose to make cakes with their playdough, decorating and singing happy birthday and role playing blowing out candles.

Thursday

Teddy Bear Picnic Day

Today, most of the children brought in their favourite teddy bears from home. They introducing their teddies to their friends, shared a picnic snack and lunch together.

Children engaged in imaginative role play, using small teapots and resources to recreate their own teddy bear picnics. There was then their very own teddy bear hunt around the nursery. They listened carefully to clues and worked together to find the teddies.

Friday

Some children explored the art area, using a variety of collage materials to create their own pizzas. There was lots of discussion about favourite toppings, with children using descriptive language to share their ideas and preferences.

A small group of children  took part in helping to weed the garden.  There was discussions about different types of plants and leaves, developing their awareness of the natural environment and the importance of looking after it.
