Junior Road Safety: FACT Group

We have Junior Road Safety Officer’s (JRSO’s).   Our JRSO’s were trained in 2023/24 around Road Safety.  They then consulted with pupils, parents and staff.  Then they updated the school travel plan.  We deliver assemblies , videos and competitions for the school to educate them on Road Safety, in a fun and dynamic way.

The FACT team 2024/25

The FACT team are a group of 6 pupils from the 2 primary 6 classes.

They were formally known as Junior Road Safety Officers but this was changed to Frankie’s Active Campaigners Team.

Frankie is Fife Council’s School Travel Plan Mascot. They meet regularly with Mrs Kirkwood and Miss Seath and have undertaken a few projects this year including The Big Walk and Wheel and the Walk to School Week.

Both were to encourage pupils to stay active when travelling to school by walking, cycling or scooting. The team also encourage safety around the school, for example, in and around the car park.

They worked on the Fair Isle School Travel Plan with Mrs Bell last year. This was emailed to every parent and one of the aims was to minimise traffic congestion around the school.

The FACT team often talk to the rest of the school, about events that are happening, in individual classes and at Assemblies. They have also been working on creating a Road Safety song for a Fife wide competition and are hoping to win it!

Our JLT have representatives from P1 to P7.  We meet regularly to discuss the school.  We have recently created the school improvement plan for this session.  We are all leaders.

Please look at our short sway to see some of the work we did in 2022/23

In March 2024 we were key speakers at a conference in Glasgow.
