The cost of living is rising but there is help available. Help is not just for people who are out of work, it is also there for those who are in work and on a low income and some of the support is available to all, without being means tested.

Nursery children receive a free lunch and milk at school each day but you can only register and receive the clothing grant once they are entering P1. Nursery parents on a low income can apply for the Best Start Grant.
The Best Start Grant supports families on a low income. You can get a payment when your child is a baby, again when they are nursery age and again when they start school. But you need to apply each time – click here to find out more.
If you don’t meet the thresholds, there’s still help out there for you. Some of the support on offer anyone can get, such as:

Scottish Welfare Fund provides a safety net for vulnerable people on low incomes by providing Community Care Grants and Crisis Grants: 0300 555 0265 (Mon-Fri 9-2:30)
