It’s been a fantastic start to the year for Room 5!
In Literacy, we have been developing our descriptive writing skills by learning how to use similes and metaphors to make our writing more engaging and imaginative. We have also been focusing on personal writing and, more recently, character descriptions. Using our class novel, Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo, we have explored how to create detailed and effective descriptions of characters.
In Numeracy, we have been learning about place value, including reading, writing, ordering and comparing numbers. Some pupils have extended their learning by exploring decimal tenths and hundredths. We have also been developing a range of strategies to support our addition and subtraction skills.
As part of our Country Comparison topic, we have thoroughly enjoyed learning about Japan. We have explored many aspects of Japanese culture, including writing, land use, art and festivals. Inspired by the famous artist Yayoi Kusama, we created our own artwork and also developed our creativity and fine motor skills through origami.
n Health and Wellbeing, our focus has been on building resilience. We have learned about inspirational resilience role models and investigated the challenges they faced through creating fact files. These activities have helped us understand the importance of perseverance, determination and a positive mindset when overcoming obstacles.
We are proud of all that we have achieved so far and look forward to continuing our learning throughout the year.
