Zoolab visit Nursery

Zoolab came for a visit to Nursery bringing some interesting animals and insects to see us. They told the story of how the animals were chosen for Chinese New Year.

It all started with a race! We met some animals and insects who didn’t finish the race because they were too small or they didn’t like water or another animal was trying to eat it.

We also met some animals who did finish the race like the snake and the rat.

We had a great time meeting all the animals and we were very brave touching and holding them!

We made our own shrinking keyrings in the oven! We couldn’t believe how much they changed after only 3 minutes!

We also had our first sewing lesson! We designed a Christmas bauble and cut the felt to the correct size and shape. Then we started to sew, filled the bauble with stuffing and added a ribbon to help us hang them on our Christmas trees at home! We had lots of fun and can’t wait until our next sewing project!

Citizen of the week is decided by class mates for different reasons, for example, I can assess myown work, I can make a wide and varied circle of freinds and lots more. There is one person voted for from eachclass every week. These are our Citizens of the Week from October to December.

Platinum Award Winners!

Jamie and Hannah (Pupil Champions for Enterprise) proudly received the Platinum Award on behalf of our school. Adult Champions, Mr Jim McKellar, Mrs Rhoda Fish and Mrs Carla Serafini, nominated by children and staff in school also attended the ceremony and received certificates recognising their achievements.

Eco Committee

We welcomed Jennifer Terris to one of our eco committee meetings. She taught the children about Litter during our Eco Week focus by playing a few fun games with them.

Jennifer threw a rat soft toy and the children gave an example of a type of litter.

Children took part in a litter race! They jumped on space hoppers to gather all of the litter dropped.

Eco Committee Trip to Dynamic Earth

The Eco Committee visited Dynamic Earth’s Natural Curiosity Exhibition on the 5^th of November 2013. Children enjoyed learning from a variety of different speakers at the exhibition stalls.

Children then went back in time on the Mother Earth of all Adventures on a tour around Dynamic Earth.

We finished our day trip by entering the Snowdome and watching a film called, ‘We are Aliens’. This was a fantastic experience for all. They couldn’t believe the special effects! They were so shocked when snow poured over us!

Provost Award Winners

Earlier in the year our school was nominated as part of the Learning to Achieve Falkirk Council Awards 2013 and received the runner-up prize for Enterprise and Careers work relating to the ‘One Planet Picnic’ Eco Schools Scotland work. We were then nominated and were absolutely delighted to win the Provost Award for the fantastic efforts of our pupils. Eddie McLean and Amber Sinclair attended the ceremony and received the award on behalf of the school. They were beaming with pride!
