Bird Cake

Some of us went to the staffroom to make bird cake. First we cut up the lard. Then we put the lard into the plastic mixing bowl with the bird seed and raisins. After that we squashed it together with our hands. Then we put the mixture into plastic cups and then into the fridge. Finally, we washed our hands.

Bird Feeders

We worked in groups to make our own recycled bird feeders. First we rinsed out the bottles in the sink. Next we cut a hole in the front of the bottle. Then we made holes in the bottom of the bottle to let the water drip through. After that we out a hole in the lid of the bottle so we could attach wire to the bottle to hang it up.

Christmas Card Recycling Competition

P4/5 are collecting Christmas cards for our Christmas card competition. Each class will bring in Christmas cards and put them in the bag you have in your classroom. Every class is taking part and the class with the most Christmas cards will get a reward.  We are collecting Christmas cards because we are making sure that they are being recycled.

Switch off fortnight!

We had a switch off fortnight from 19th November – 2nd December and P7 were going around classes to see if the classes switched off their lights, computers and smart boards and their appliances at the plug. The winners were the nursery, P4/5 and P7. Every class did very well. Beforehand,P7 were learning about energy and how it causes global warming and how we can save energy by wrapping up warm and turning off appliances at the plug. It was very fun and everybody tried very hard and done extremely well.

Digging our Pond

A couple of weeks ago Primary 7 were building a pond with Jennifer from Jupiter. She helped us design and build it.  We also had a visit from a lady who works at Dobbies to help us get plants for our Inside Outside Eco Pod. Some of us used trowels and some used shovels but we all had a go at each of them. We have found some wildlife living in it already. It took us about 2 afternoons to dig the pond. Once we dug the pond we had to line it with tar pollen and carpet to make sure the water did not drain away.

The opening of the Inside Outside Eco Pod

On Wednesday 19th September the provost came to the opening of the inside outside eco pod and our one planet picnic.  Jordan from Falkirk High School piped us in with the bagpipes. There was a BBQ for the parents in the quiet area and tasters round on the tarmac. There were smoothies, milkshakes, strawberries and chocolate bananas, potato salad, carrots, pickles, kebabs and pavlova’s . All of the foods were made with local, seasonla or ethically produced foods and were yummy!

Brilliant Bananas and Super Strawberries dipped in Fair-trade chocolate

Ingredients

1.  First we got 2 bananas and we cut them up into about 7 slices.

2.  Then we did the same with strawberries but we cut them in half.

3. After that we stuck cocktail sticks in them.

4. Then we got Dairy milk fair-trade chocolate and broke it up and melted it in the microwave for 4 minutes.

5. Next we dipped the fruit into the chocolate and then we left them to dry.

6.  Now they are ready to enjoy!

The strawberries we used were from Perthshire and the bananas are fair-trade.  We made sure our peelings and fruit waste were put into our brown compost bins!
