The jumpcut video shows the great variety of books the P7’s enjoy. They voted for the best cover illustration … it was very close!

We’d love to know what you think! Do you recognise any of the books? What are your favourite books?

This is Fraser’s winning illustration!

Book Week!

 book-week.gif

It was ‘Book Week’ in school this week. We had great fun looking at all the great books there were for sale. There were also competitions with book prizes. Primary 7V designed book cover illustrations of their favourite books. Fraser S. won … his illustration was awesome!! Well done, Fraser!

Meanwhile, Primary 7 made books for the primary 1 and 2’s to enjoy. Click the ‘play’ button below to see how much they appreciated the great stories!

We interviewed the children to find out what they thought. Click on the ‘weemees’ to listen to the interviews … ‘Spy Mice’ seemed to be the favourite in Primary 1. The children in Primary 2 had a number of favourites!

Our 'Parent Evening' Poll!

Our ‘Parent Night’ evenings are on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. The Primary 7 pupils are going to demonstrate how we use our blogs and wikis to help our learning. We’re going to ask all the visiting parents to take our poll!!

The poll results will be available on Friday of this week 🙂

Primary 7V are going to find out more about their own history …. with the help of mums, dads, aunties, uncles, grans and grandads!! They’ll share their findings on a wikispaces page. Meanwhile, everyone interviewed a parent or grandparent about their ‘early years’. We’ll upload them to our pbwikis soon. BenC has already managed to put his interview with his mum on to his wiki. Click on his ‘weemee’ to listen … please be patient while it loads 🙂

Voices of the World – October Task

Our October Task for the Voices of the World project was to produce an Animoto video of the pupils singing our National Anthem. Primary 7 really wanted to sing ‘Flower of Scotland’. It looks and sounds great …. well done P7V!

Assembly Success!

Our assembly on ‘Internet Safety’ was a great success! The whole school and lots of mums and dads, grans and grandads, and brothers and sisters came along to listen to our important message. We sang the two songs we showed in the videos in the previous post, and there was much more, too!

The videos below show some more of the action from the day!

Mrs Paton's Leaving Party!

We had an unusual day last Friday …. we planned a great surprise party to say goodbye to Mrs Paton. She didn’t suspect a thing! It didn’t seem like school at all because we were allowed to bring clothes to change in to and lots of people brought ‘goodies’ to share!

It might have started off like a normal school day – but it ended up very differently!

🙂

Bethany's Story

Mrs Paton made up a story starter and the pupils were asked to continue it in the same style. Some of them added them to their wiki pages. Bethany illustrated hers and then recorded her version of the story orally. You can watch her ‘movie version’ below. There’s a slight pause between the first and second picture ….. please be patient while the story continues 🙂

Our Harvest Deliveries

 harvest4.JPG

Every year at this time, the primary 7 pupils deliver groceries to the elderly people in our community. Today the weather was not good, but there was a smile on everyone’s face …. the givers and the receivers!

Click on the video below to view the happy faces!

Our Wonderful Wikis!

Bethany and her ‘wiki friends’ are the first in the class to have come up with the idea of  writing a shared story.

It was a great idea and it was lovely to see them present their shared story at our recent ‘Parent Blogging Evening’. I was very impressed that they had even added a colour code to show who had written which part of the story!

You can read the story by clicking on Bethany’s ‘WeeMee’ below.

Meanwhile, Mrs Paton thought of a great story starter and wrote a few opening sentences. She asked the class to continue it. P7V loved planning what might happen next and today some of them shared their ideas on their wikis.

Mrs Paton has been with us for a few weeks now … she’s been great and we wish her well in her new teaching career.

You can read Monica’s version of how the story might continue by clicking on her ‘WeeMee’ below.

What A Fantastic Evening!

 blog5.gif

Thank you to all the mums and dads …..     (and grans and grandads, and brothers and sisters, and aunties and uncles!!!) for coming to our ‘Blogging Evening’!

…. But most of all THANK YOU to Primary 7 …. You were all ‘mega stars’ and you made the whole event great – I was so proud of everyone of you!

Here’s a wee reminder!

Voices of the World!

Primary 7V are involved in an exciting new project called ‘Voices of the World’! Every month we have to complete a task. For September we all made a Voki to advertise the project. Our one is below.

[kml_flashembed movie="http://vhss-a.oddcast.com/voki/voki_player.swf?doc=http%3A%2F%2Fvhss-d.oddcast.com%2Fphp%2Fvoki%2Fgetvoki%2Fchsm%3D012008bfdb0a4bde2a3fae3ff61f8b17%26sc%3D53845" width="200" height="267" wmode="transparent" /]

It’s run by Mrs Tonner from the High School of Dundee. This is what Mrs Tonner says about the project:

‘Voices Of The World is an exciting project that will use the voice and sound rather than the written or typed word. All too often we ask children to communicate at a distance using text rather than voice. VOTW will hopefully prove that we can unite and learn from one another using our voices in the simplest way possible. I am looking forward to this challenge ahead of us which will surely motivate our children to learn about other cultures through the use of the voice.’

You can visit the wiki to see all the countries involved so far, and listen to everyone’s message. Just click HERE!

Involving the Community!

We’re finding out about our local community and a few weeks ago we wrote letters to the new Shore Restaurant in our area. We had some questions that we wanted to ask. The manager invited some of us to come along. You can watch the interview here. Darren, our Cameraman, did a great job (but it’s my fault that I didn’t realise the light from the window would make the video so dark – sorry Darren!)

[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.jumpcut.com/media/flash/jump.swf?id=D484AAAC6DF411DCB43F000423CF4092&asset_type=clip&asset_id=D484AAAC6DF411DCB43F000423CF4092&asset_url=/media/dyn/69/8d4a/bbab38a475043aee3a383054e8/lq.flv&eb=1" width="408" height="324" wmode="transparent" /]

After the interview, we showed Craig some of the pictures of the Shore Restaurant that we have been sketching with our Art teacher, Mrs Williamson. It’s a lovely building and our charcoal drawings are looking great so far …… so great that we’re to be allowed to put some of our completed artwork on display in the restaurant! We’ll take pictures of them for our blog once they are framed!!

These are some pictures from our visit. We haven’t put any on of the front of the building .. we’ll post these alongside our completed sketches soon!

Involving Parents!

 parental-involvement.gif

On Tuesday evening, we’re having a presentation and workshop evening in school so that the parents (and other family members) of the P7 pupils can learn more about how we use our Blogs and Wikis.

To help us prepare for this, we invited some members of Falkirk Council who are involved in working with parents to come to school and we asked them to tell us a bit about what they do.

Listen to the Vokis below to find out who they are and what their jobs involve!

[kml_flashembed movie="http://vhss-a.oddcast.com/voki/voki_player.swf?doc=http%3A%2F%2Fvhss-d.oddcast.com%2Fphp%2Fvoki%2Fgetvoki%2Fchsm%3De7e2781795752f89d108bffc3d99fa3b%26sc%3D55763" width="200" height="267" wmode="transparent" /]

We wanted to find out more about why it’s important to involve parents in our learning. You can listen to our podcast below …

BUT ….. can you please click on their name link and not the little icon (it just doesn’t seem to work)

Please be patient while it loads ….. because we think it’s worth the wait!

Thanks  🙂

Dreamtime Stories on Voicethread … and Apologies!

The pupils read some Aborigine Dreamtime stories then illustrated them. We uploaded them into ‘Voicethread’ so that they could retell the stories. Some pupils worked very hard at this, but I’ve put it together wrongly and can’t fix it!! I know they’re all waiting for this post, so here goes …..

There are 3 slides.

The first one is by Chloe and FraserM.

The next slide shows Jaydean talking about ‘Guthi, Guthi’ which is really Darcie’s illustration about ‘Minawee’. On the same slide, Darcie then tells the real story behind her illustrations!?

The last slide is Jaydean’s ‘Guthi, Guthi’ illustration – but with no voice because Jaydean has already talked about it on the previous slide ……  SO SORRY EVERYONE 🙂

They’re still great – well done all !! We’ll post more on Monday – in the correct order, hopefully 🙂

(press the little ‘go’ arrow to begin – you can view the slides more closely by clicking on them)

Wiki Reports ….. and Blog Reviews!!

Primary 7V now have their own wikis. Wikis are different from Blogs, because they’re designed to be shared with others. P7V have invited a few people that they trust to share their wiki. They’re all very pleased with them so far!

Nina sums up the feeling of her classmates when she wrote this on her Wiki ‘Front Page’

‘Hello,my name is Nina and this is my pb wiki.I am very excited to have a pb wiki. This is a chance for me to show my work.’

Most have created at least one new page because they were asked to write a report on the events leading up to the interview with Master Bailey. … and what a SUPER job they’ve made of these!! Nina’s can be seen by clicking here

Click the ‘Badges’ below to go straight to Ainsley, Maryam, or Fraser’s Wiki (to open in a new window, ‘right click’ on the mouse)

Or why not go to our ‘Wonderful Wikis’ page to read even more!

Meanwhile ……

we’ve been contacted by Webbliworld who asked us to review their website. We’ve only had a quick look, but it certainly has the ‘thumbs up’ so far! Check out the reviews on Rhianne, Ben C and Anna’s Blogs …. or visit our ‘P7 Blogs’ page to read all the reviews 🙂
