Attendance

We regard excellent attendance as a key element of achieving success through school and as such, East Renfrewshire Council and the school have clear attendance policies and procedures.  The pupil support (pastoral) team monitor attendance each day and attendance is recorded period-by-period by each class teacher.  Examples of attendance codes would include, confirmed absence, medical/dental appointment, unauthorised family holiday, school trip/visit and unauthorised absence.  If you have a question about the categorisation of attendance or absence please contact the school.

If your child has been recorded as absent and we do not have a note of the reason for this, the school office may contact parents with a text message or phone call.  If you know in advance that your child will be absent (eg for a medical appointment) they must bring in a note from you confirming the details, which they then show to their pupil support teacher.  The pupil support team investigates all unexplained absences and we require a note confirming each period of absence.  If a pupil support teacher is concerned about a pupil’s attendance or latecoming level, they will send out a letter and may phone home to discuss their concern.  If unexplained or unjustified absences persist, the matter can be referred to the Reporter to the Children’s Panel or to the local Attendance Council.
