Balancing

This morning, we were playing on the see-saws.  We were learning to balance on them and transfer our weight from one side to the other.

I was scared of letting go of the teacher in case I fell but I took my time and learned how to balance on my own. My teacher was very proud of me.

We were enjoying balancing so we decided to borrow a bench from the gym hall to walk along. We turned it upside down and it was very hard to balance on.  We also used our building blocks to make stepping stones.

I decided to but objects on each end of the see-saw. I noticed that when I made one side heavier, that side would fall down.

Shape

Currently our numeracy and mathematics focus is 2D shapes and 3D objects.

The children have been exploring this concept in lots of different ways in the nursery.

See if you can spot different shapes and objects at home and out and about.  At lunch time we noticed that some of our sandwiches are rectangles and some are triangles.

I was posting shapes into the shape monsters!

We noticed that our outdoor number logs are circles.

We noticed that balls, or spheres, roll.

We can use different shaped objects to build.  Shapes with round edges are harder to build with.

We decorated circle plates.

We used small cubes to build a mountain range and a pyramid.  We love being creative in our maths learning!
