Marching into March…

Well, that’s February nearly out the way! We’ve battled wind, rain, hail, sleet and snow- but we’re still standing!

We all enjoyed sitting our Standardised Tests earlier in the month and can’t wait to find out the results in… June!

We are continuing to work our way through The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and were delighted to receive a tweet from John Boyne, the author, who thanked us for sending him on some drawings based on his book. Bruno has gone exploring and has made a new friend, Schmuel. We can’t wait to find out what happens next! We wrote a ‘Letter Home to Grandma’ last week – as Bruno- and next week, we will be writing a character study of a Concentration Camp Guard. We have also been using charcoal to create atmospheric Holocaust artwork.

We have been working on the final part of The Pope Francis Faith Award and made cards for someone special and drawn pictures of God’s Creation. We are also continuing our preparations for the Sacrament of Confirmation, focusing on The Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Lent began yesterday with a trip to St Cadoc’s Chapel to receive our ashes. We have all made pledges to try to be better people… watch this space!

We have been doing football in PE this term and many of the boys who go to the Youth Club have been taking the class for training sessions. It’s going really well and everyone is enjoying it!

Remember to keep an eye on twitter to keep up to date in real time!

Over and out.

Happy New Year!

Well, Christmas seems a distant memory now and we’re back to working at a fair old pace!

We began our Holocaust topic and marked Holocaust Memorial Day today in class. We have also started reading ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’. We have met Bruno, Gretel (The Hopeless Case) and Maria. We are already hooked! To celebrate Mr Burns’ Day, we read some of Rabbie’s poetry to our parents. We then recited/ recorded them in class for the benefit of Mrs Chisolm, our number one Twitter fan!

The Fractions topic was a breeze and we now know that asking for one quarter of a slice of pizza is the same as asking for 80 three hundred and twentieths (although it’s slightly easier for the guy in Domino’s to cut quarters slices!) We are all looking forward to sitting the Standardised Test next month!

We are exploring the dangers of smoking and are busy creating powerpoint posters which will be displayed in the foyer on National No Smoking Day. (11th March 2020) Make sure you have a look for them!

We studied Judaism this month. We now know the story of Moses, the layout of a Synagogue and the main elements of the Jewish faith.

Christmas Time is here…

Well, we are nearly at the finishing line for this term. It’s been fun and we’ve also managed to learn a few things along the way.

We are continuing with our Faith Journey by completing a variety of tasks for the Pope Francis Faith Award. Abdul, “I made two new friends because we were asked to play with people outside our friendship group.”

We enjoyed our topic on WW2: The Home Front. It was really interesting learning about what it was like when Mr McLaughlin was a wee boy! We heard first hand accounts from Evacuees and survivors of the Clydebank Blitz. We created posters and fact files which we shared with pupils from P6.

Raul, “I enjoyed drawing a picture of a Spitfire when we were finding out about The Battle of Britain.”

Anthony, “I really liked creating a Propaganda poster. Mine’s was a ‘Careless Talk Cost Lives’ one.”

Daniel, “I liked watching clips because I learned what it would be like to live back then.”

We have been finding out about the link between fractions, decimals and percentages as well as integers and negative numbers. It was a blast! Ahmad, “I feel really confident and proud and I understand it!”

The highlight for many was the visit to Sky Studios. We did lots of prep beforehand; even wrote a balanced debate on the subject… Should Children be Given Access to Social Media? We requested roles and (almost) everyone was given a role they wanted. We planned senes, wrote scripts and worked out camera shots. The day itself was very busy, but loads of fun and we all agreed it was a fantastic day out!

Brendan, “We all worked as ateam and I learnt that it’s about everyone who takes part.”

Chaz, “I was a Producer and I liked being able to decide what outfits the presenters wore.”

Eilidh, “Although we were in four different groups, we were all aiming to create something together.”

Next stop… Christmas, then ‘ Old Clathes and Porridge’…

New Session. New Challenges.

Primary 7C started off with a bang at Safety in the Park. We learned how to deal with a variety of situations we may come across in our lives. We learned how to be safe on the internet, how to prepare for an emergency and the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse.
Noah, “I enjoyed learning life skills. My favourite activity was the cycling accident because it was fun and we blamed the driver at first.”
Evie, “My favourite activity was the Beer Goggles as I learned how to be responsible with alcohol.”
We reminisced with our parents and grandparents about our First Day at School and wrote a recount of the event. We then moved on to writing a number of spooky stories, focussing on characterisation and setting.
Michael, “It was fun to think back to when I was so young.”
Flynn, “I enjoyed remembering being in Primary 1.”
We had lots of fun (LOL) completing Algebraic equations and tackling angles and bearings in Maths!
Brendan, “I understand it now and it can be fun!”
Our first Art activity was creating pastel drawings of Mr McLaughlin AKA ‘Shrek’! We used a grid system to create these drawings and we will be transferring these skills to create portraits soon.
Kelsie, “I learned how to shade with pastels and make a drawing look realistic.”
We began preparations for Confirmation by discussing the importance of a name and are in the process of researching our chosen saint. We then shared our findings with our peers.
Christina, “I have chosen St Teresa of Calcutta. I really like what she did with her life.”
We chose to study China as our Social Studies topic. We used the Atlas to investigate this huge land.
Abby, “It’s interesting to see how different to Scotland and China are.”

We are now moving on to looking at balanced discussions in preparation for our trip to Sky Studios in December. We will be producing a news report on ‘Social Media.’

Our new topic is World War 2- The Home Front.

It was very fun and there was lots of humor throughout. There was also alot of strong disscusions and good points.

The Mile Run is very healthy for you. It was a pain in the beginning, but now it’s actually very fun and easy and it keeps us healthy and motivated. We run from the P4-7 gate to the P1 gate, 3 times, each as a full lap. Mr. Fogg makes us do it in the morning so we’re awake and ready for the day. its best to do so in the morning so we are not tired at the end of the day.

In Science this week we learnt how to do Oobleck. It was fun and easy to make. We learnt what would disolve, some were right but some weren’t, but it was really fun. We learnt about Atoms and how they are important. In Literacy at the end we done some questionnares to see how good and interesting we thought it was.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is realy fun, it helps us to be calm and happy. We also did some fun activitys like drawing our calm place we also cut out leaves and put them on our rivers. The leaves represent every one of our thoughts. We learnt about Buddha and how he is the master of mindfulness.
