In2MedSchool is a free widening participation initiative that has been created to support aspiring medical students and give them a strong foundation for their medical school application. We provide free one-to-one mentoring for students in S5 who will be matched with a current medical student or doctor The mentor will: -Provide encouragement throughout your application process. -Answer questions about life at medical school. -Offer advice and discuss the mentor’s experience with applying to Medicine. -Provide support around BMAT/UCAT exams. -Help with your personal statement, finding work experience andinterview preparation. DYW Virtual Work Experience week has been developed under My Climate Path. My Climate Path can offer 500 funded places to S3 pupils in the DYW Glasgow, West and Lanarkshire & East Dunbartonshire regions. The DYW Virtual Work Experience week will take place 1st – 5th November. Virtual Work Experience will inspire and raise the aspirations of young people to consider Construction and the Built Environment as a valuable career path. The learners will discover real-world applications of STEM and can access a whole range of exciting professional career pathways through strong industry and academic links. Content In collaboration with COYO and McDonald’s, pupils will be challenged to design a ‘Net Zero’ McDonald’s restaurant for a local community. During the week, pupils will be introduced to the concept of ‘net zero’ design. They will be asked to design an inclusive, modern restaurant, with support throughout the week from industry professionals. Pupils will be required to produce a written report over the course of the week and submit this for moderation. Successful pupils will receive a “DEC CONNECT Award” endorsed certificate. Alignment with Curriculum & Careers Advice Aligns with the DYW Career Education Standard. Strong curriculum links to STEM subjects + English, Geography, Art, Design & Technology. Students can explore a range of professions, and DYW has industry experts available to provide virtual or actual in-person support as well as providing to insights into the following roles and career pathways: Architect, Architectural Technologist, Structural Engineer, Civil Engineer, Building Services Engineer, Facilities Manager, Interior Designer, Landscape Architect, Project Manager, Land Surveyor & Quantity Surveyor.
