S5 Pupils: Scottish Space School applications now open

SCOTTISH SPACE SCHOOL @ STRATHCLYDE 2019 The 2019 Scottish Space School @ Strathclyde residential summer school will be held at the University of Strathclyde from 9-14 June 2019 and applications are now being invited via the online application system. PRE-EMPLOYMENT ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME

The following programme has been created to provide theoretical knowledge and practical skills and experience to persons who are looking to secure an Electrical Installation Apprenticeship. The course comprises of a number of theoretical units and practical projects that have been associated with what would be included in the apprenticeship scheme. This process is to ensure there is a relatively straightforward progression from the course onto an apprenticeship, having gained much of the knowledge and understanding of electrical principles and the necessary practical skills required to be applied by an apprentice electrician. The above programme is provided in association with the Scottish Electrical Charitable Training Trust (SECTT), who co-ordinate the electrical apprenticeship programme for, and on behalf of electrical contracting employers. STEM courses! Inspire (S4)

The course provides a fun and challenging introduction to a number of different types of engineering and highlighting the science, mathematics and technology concepts that are integral to each subject. Alongside the subject specific activities we will show you what it’s like to be in higher education and encourage you to problem solve, communicate and work as a team, all vital skills for education and work. The course is based on a challenge which you will be working on in a small team, you will initially be given some programming and workshop skills and you will be supported throughout the challenge with helpers who will offer advice and suggestions. Living in student halls and having academic sessions throughout the course will give you a taste of what it’s like to study at university. You will also participate in evening social activities. This course is suitable for students who are interested in either maths, physics, programming or technology and would like to apply their skills in a fun group challenge whilst learning about careers that might interest them. Universities of Oxford and Cambridge Interview Seminars in Scotland

The University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge are delighted to be visiting Scotland from the 29th-31st August 2018 to deliver a series of interview seminars for students who may be considering applying to Oxford, Cambridge, or other competitive universities. The events are open to students in S6, and to their teachers and advisers. The Interview Seminars will be helpful to students considering Oxford or Cambridge as well as for those applying for subjects which will involve academic interviews. They will be delivered by academic staff and admissions officers from the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. The Interview Seminars each last approximately 3 hours and will be delivered in the following locations: Aberdeen Aberdeen Grammar School, Wednesday 29 August, 14:00-17:00 Glasgow Venue and Time TBC, Thursday 30 August, Morning Edinburgh Venue and Time TBC, Friday 31 August, Morning Teachers are invited to attend with their students, although this is not compulsory. Vodafone Training Programme: Code Like A Girl

WANTED: Volunteer Trainers for Vodafone #CodeLikeAGirl programme This summer, Vodafone UK will be running an extensive global training programme for GIRLS aged 14-18, to help them engage with the technology industry and encourage them to consider technology as a career path in the future. The programme will be run throughout the 27 countries that Vodafone operates across, and as part of the programme each country will host a 4 day coding course for girls. We are looking for Vodafone colleagues with web coding experience to support the programme as volunteer trainers for the course.
