Eruption Time! 14/9/20

Busby experienced some volcanic eruptions this morning thanks to P5b!

We experimented with mixing white vinegar, Fairy Liquid, food colouring together with either baking powder or bicarbonate of soda. We found that bicarbonate of soda resulted in an instant eruption which only lasted a couple of seconds, whereas the baking powder was more of a slow burner!

Maths Week

The children had great fun participating in different activities for Maths Week 2020.

On Monday, we took part in an outdoor maths treasure trail, as well as using natural resources to create shapes and demonstrate what 2m social distancing looks like!

Congratulations to Freya, Jack C and Skye for being voted the winners of our class competition to design an outdoor maths game for the playground! Their game was a maths version of Snakes and Ladders, which they called Pencils and Rulers. The children worked in groups to create their own maths games, and the winners from each class will be competing for the chance to have their game printed in the school playground. We will all keep our fingers crossed that Pencils and Rulers comes out on top!

Making Volcanoes 11/9/20

On Wednesday afternoon, we began our first step in creating our own erupting volcanoes!

The children worked in groups to form the structure of the volcano using recycled bottles, cups and newspapers.

Everyone loved getting stuck in and did a fantastic job of painting the volcanoes on Friday afternoon, with some very realistic lava effects!

We are all excited to make our own volcanic eruptions on Monday.  More pictures and videos to follow!

Here are our groups proudly showing off their efforts.

Our First Blog 4/9/20

Hello everyone!

Welcome to our very first blog post of the year, we look forward to sharing more with you over the coming weeks. The class have have all settled in to the new term and are adjusting to all the changes to school life!

On Wednesday, as part of our new IDL topic, the children enjoyed creating their own natural disaster pictures using a range of art media.

Here are some photos of everyone working hard:

The class used photographs of real-life natural disasters as a stimulus for their own work!

They managed to produce some wonderful pictures of volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, bush fires, tsunamis and floods.
