Week beginning 14th December…

Another busy week and the final countdown until the holidays is on.

The children’s creativity has really come out this week as we have continued making toys and drawings in Santa’s workshop.

Some of the boys were busy showing off their craftsmanship skills by using the boxes to build some amazing creations. They spent a lot of time working on this.

Our naughty elf, Tinsel, latched on to one of the girl’s beautiful party dresses on Monday – cheeky!

It was Christmas jumper week this week and 2 of our pupils turned up as twins!

Some of the girls also spent a lot of time using the boxes to create a ‘bee hive’. It was amazing seeing such good teamwork.

The ‘Create your own Christmas jumper’ challenge went down a treat.

Santa was hard at work in his workshop.

Most of our maths and literacy work has been festive to help us get in the spirit.

We created some Christmas baubles on Wednesday. These can be hung on the tree or somewhere around the house. The children put so much effort in to making these and many of them were using their knowledge of symmetry when designing.

I can’t believe we are now at the end of term 1 – and what a wonderful term it’s been. Thank you so much for all of your hard work so far P2. Roll on 2021 to see what else we can get up to…

Week beginning 7th December…

This week, the excitement for Christmas has been building.

On Friday morning, we found our classroom turned upside down!!! We had also been sent some cheeky videos on google classroom which helped us to work out that it was the very naughty Grinch!!!

We had to tidy our whole classroom and put it back to normal after the Grinch’s antics.

In maths, one of the groups  has been looking at fractions over the last few weeks. This is a very tricky concept but they have been doing so well.

Another maths group has been learning about measuring weight in grams and kilograms. They have loved carrying out the practical tasks.

Santa’s workshop has been super busy all week with some spectacular toys being designed and created by our talented little elves.

P2 continued developing their reading skills this week. We have seen some super improvements over the last few weeks! Keep up the hard work.

Our pupils have created some amazing designs and drawings at the creative zone this week.

We had the pleasure of enjoying an online pantomime on Thursday afternoon which really helped us all get in to the festive spirit.

On Friday afternoon, we created our lanterns to help light up Busby for the ‘Busby shines bright’ event on Saturday evening. The pupils worked so hard on these and have taken great pride in creating their own unique design.

Well done P2!

Week Beginning 30th November…

It finally turned December this week and we are SO excited for all the festive plans we have ahead this month.

Our Christmas countdown has begun.

Our naughty elf, Tinsel, also arrived!! He’s been getting up to all sorts of mischief.

Our winter crafts are well underway. We spent some time on Thursday creating stars for our one of our window displays.

The pupils picked the design they would like to have for our ‘Christmas door’. Each of their little elves are peaking around the side of the door.

On Friday afternoon, we created reindeer which are going to pull the sleigh for our next window display. They all look super!

One of our pupils made this incredible tiling design all by herself. Well done on creating such an intricate and detailed design.

In Literacy, the pupils have been working hard to consolidate their common words at the speed writing station.

We have also been looking at the A sound this week and how this sound can be spelt ‘ai’ or ‘ay’.

Some pupils created these amazing race tracks. They designed different styles of tracks with varying levels of difficulty.

The foam literacy letters were being used to build and construct towers and boxes. Teamwork was key for the letters to stick together.

The construction zone was busy again this week with some girls designing and creating a hotel. They returned to this over the course of 3 days to add and alter parts of their design.

Well done on another successful week everyone!

Week beginning 23rd November…

Another week done and dusted.

We have made lots of progress in maths this week. One of our maths groups have been looking at tiling. They have made some super designs using 2D shapes.

Another of the maths groups have been learning about fractions. Some then tried to draw and demonstrate their own fractions.

Some pupils love to try out their own calculations on the whiteboard and leave them for me to check over. This kind of enthusiasm is amazing!

Another maths group have been consolidating their knowledge of odd and even numbers.

While others were finding the missing number in calculations.

The girls spent ages trying to master this balance activity. They were very pleased when they finally managed it.

One of the most exciting things we took part in this week was creating an Arctic scene mainly made from recycled waste. All of the pupils were involved with designing a specific section of the display. It looks SUPER!

Week beginning 16th November…

A SUPER busy week in P2 this week!!

We celebrated Health and Well Being week and took part in some fun activities which looked at different aspects of our well being. We discussed our mindset and how we can change this from negative to positive by getting rid of our ‘bad thought monsters’.

We also had a video call with the P6s during which they showed us some mindfulness activities to try if we are feeling worried or angry.

The pupils then choose their favourite strategy which they now know how to use to help calm themselves down.

For the final part of Health and Well Being week, we discussed why we shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover. From this the children went on to discuss how this concept is the same for humans – you should never judge someone you don’t know. The book swapping event then took place and everyone loved unwrapping their new books!

It was also Scottish Book Trust week. We were so lucky to be given our book bug bags home which had some lovely activities and books inside.

During some of our P.E time, we worked in pairs to give directions to our blindfolded partner. This helped us to experience what it would be like to live as a mole like Rocketmole.

Some of Friday afternoon was spent junk modelling. The children built rockets after studying the story of ‘Rocketmole’ throughout the week. The children worked in teams and then presented their final designs to the rest of the class

We had an Arctic discovery station in class this week. The pupils enjoyed role playing with the arctic animals and building ice bergs and glaciers.

The loose parts lab was busy as usual, with lots of pupils building and creating various designs.

The pupils loved our new glitter glue pens at the creative station.

Some of the pupils enjoyed playing with the 2D shapes at the tiling station. They created some wonderful designs.

Well done P2!

Week beginning 9th November…

The weeks are flying in for P2!

Last week’s ‘Arctic art’ has been hung up on the wall and it look AMAZING.

In P.E, the children enjoyed continuing to develop their ball handling skills.

Our ‘Loose Parts Lab’ was popular. Lots of interesting creations were being made.

In science, we were continuing to learn about food chains. This week, the pupils were working in groups to sort different groups of animals into a food chain.

One of our maths groups has loved continuing to learn about measuring length using meter sticks.

Finally, this week we have been doing some work around the book, ‘How Many Trees?’ by Barroux. We looked at deforestation and how this affects the wildlife as well as the environment. For art on Friday afternoon, the children created their own forest landscape pictures, choosing whichever resources they wanted to create the texture and shape of the trees.

Some children also decided to create deforestation awareness posters following on from our learning earlier in the week.

Well done on another super week P2.

Week beginning 2nd November…

This week in P2…

Some of the pupils were looking at even and odd numbers in maths. They were sorting the number cards into piles of odd and even and then arranging the piles into order from smallest to largest.

Some children enjoy creating symmetry using different materials from around the classroom.

The weight resources have been a massive hit this week with lots of children working together to explore and discover new things with various gram weights, kilogram weights and balance scales.

Some boys even began drawing around the weights and labelling them.

One of the maths groups was introduced to the concept of measuring length this week. One task they had to complete was to measure different objects and areas in the classroom using their foot span and hand span.

These girls loved playing with our phonics letter cubes to create different patterns and rainbows.

Once again the cafe was extremely busy throughout the week. Here some children have created a wonderful spread of food and drinks for their customers.

Well done on another busy week P2. You have all worked super hard!

Week beginning 26th October…

It has been another busy week in P2.

Our maths groups have been working super hard. Some people were learning all about data handling and recording numbers using tally marks.

Others were learning all about the tens and units in a 2 digit number.

We have been doing lots of creative activities, some of which were Halloween themed.

There was lots of lovely role play happening in the zones too. Our cafe is proving very popular.

On Friday, we had a ‘Spooky Potion’ zone where the children could make their very own Halloween potions.

We also made some Halloween cards by using apples and pears to create the shapes of pumpkins and ghosts.

Happy Halloween everyone! Have a lovely weekend.

Week beginning 19th October…

It was a short week this week but we still managed to pack lots of exciting learning opportunities in.

The pupils enjoyed being back together after the October holidays and lots of them have enjoyed completing their daily targets together.

We had a brand new cafe set up within the numeracy and maths zone which lots of the children enjoyed playing in. They were serving food and drinks, paying, weighing out food and taking orders.

As always, our creative zone was super busy with pupils practising their cutting skills as well as drawing, colouring, painting and creating.

We look forward to what next week will bring.

Week beginning 28th September

Although it was a shorter week last week, we were super busy in P2. It was MATHS WEEK!

Some children chose to design and build their own paper aeroplanes and then took them outside to fly them and measure the distance they could travel.

As a whole class, we spent some time looking at symmetry. We  found lots of symmetry in the local environment and we also used natural resources to create our own symmetry outside in the playground.

We then finished Maths week off by taking part in the whole school challenge – create your own Maths game. We did this in teams and we worked really hard to design and create our own board games.

Well done P2 for taking part in a busy but fun maths week!
