Here are some activities we have been enjoying this week…

We have loved making rainbows in our atrium. It has helped us remember our ‘r’ sound we learned earlier this week.

We have enjoyed finding new ways of revising our s a t p i n sounds.  Keep practising them at home!

We  have also learned our ‘m’ sound this week and enjoyed making mouse masks at our red counter table.

Our Role Play area in the atrium has been turned into a Vet this week. It has been a very popular area!

We have continued to practice our counting skills this week. We have challenged ourselves to count up to 20!

We met a new friend this week called ‘Wabbit’  he helped us with our rhyming skills. We loved playing more rhyming games in class. We have been enjoying playing Silly Soup to help us think of different rhyming words.

Monday 23^rd September  – Family Numeracy and Maths Homework Challenge

Families can choose one activity (or more if you wish) from the grid and work on this together over the next two weeks.  How you record and share your homework is up to you! There are some suggestions on the grid but please feel free to be as inventive as you wish.  This homework will last two weeks. On Friday 4^th October, the eldest child in each family should bring in their family homework and the pupils will get a chance to share their activity with the school community.  The homework should be carried out as a family and each activity can be simplified or extended to allow everyone to take part.  There are lots of real life challenges to allow our pupils to see the benefit numeracy and maths has on our everyday life.  These activities are designed to be fun, active and engaging for all our learners.  It will not only promote their numeracy, but it will also develop their problem solving, creativity and collaboration skills.

Here are some of our favourite activities this week…

 

We have loved junk modelling in our Atrium-the creations and teamwork have been amazing! Thank-you so much for your donations.

  We have started to build and blend words using our sounds that we have learned so far: s a t p i n. Clever cookies :).

 

P1a have been learning to count objects to 10 and 20. We loved drawing pictures to match the amounts!

 

The class have been listening to Nursery Rhymes and playing rhyming games. This week, we  sequenced the story of ‘Incy Wincy Spider’ and identified the rhyming words. We can’t wait to learn our next Nursery rhyme!

Literacy	Complete phonics sheet for ‘p’ and ‘n’. Please practise sound and action. Revise common words ‘and’, ‘an’ and ‘is’. Can you read and write these words?   Please continue to practise holding your pencil correctly.
Maths	Practise writing the numbers 0 – 3 in the correct order, using the correct formation. Please see number rhymes for formation guidance.
Other	Please continue to practise getting dressed with someone at home. Focus on buttons, ties and zips. Could you please ensure that ALL clothing/belongings are named.

Number Formation Rhymes:

0 –  Circle left and round you go, round and round its number zero

1 –  Start at the top and down you run, one straight line its number one.

2  –  Make half a heart and add a shoe, now you’ve made the  number two.

3 – Around the tree, around the tree, that’s the way we make a three.

Kitchen rolls

Plastic Bottles

Cardboard/Cardboard Boxes

Please no toilet rolls, egg boxes or milk cartons.

OUTDOOR LEARNING CLOTHING 
Different outdoor learning experiences offer opportunities for personal and learning skills development in areas such as communication, problem solving, information technology, working with others and thinking skills. Learning in the outdoors can make significant contributions to literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing. Therefore, outdoor learning offers many opportunities for learners to deepen and contextualise their understanding within curriculum areas, and for linking learning across the curriculum in different contexts and at all levels.
(Learning and Teaching Scotland, 2010)

 

At Kirkhill Primary we strive to provide regular outdoor learning experiences for all our children. As a school we have a fantastic outdoor space which can be used across the curriculum to develop our children socially, emotionally and academically. During last session we had a super Science Garden added to our fantastic Eco garden and we can’t wait to explore here and other areas of our school grounds!

To allow all pupils to access outdoor learning in the changeable Scottish weather, we would appreciate the children bringing in outdoor clothing (wellies, rain jackets and trousers) on Fridays.   Also, if you have any spare items which your child is not using any more and you are happy to give these to the school, please put this in a bag with it clearly labelled as spare clothing for the school to allow items to be shared with our families.
