Homework Update

This week is the last week of covering the Stage 2 programme for phonics. Next week is a consolidation/assessment week so the homework jotters will not be coming home on the 28th October as we will be updating them. Please see attached this terms homework grid which can be started as of next week. The homework jotters will be coming home week beginning 4th November. You will then have the rest of the term to work your way through the grid and we will request the jotters in for our next consolidation week closer to the end of term. Remember any road safety posters should be returned by this Friday, the 25th.

Gymnastics Skills

We have had so much fun developing our gymnastics skills this term. Mrs Knox was blown away this morning with how well we could use the hurdle step on to the spring board and the development of our backwards rolls.

Commas

P3a.1 have been learning how to use commas to separate items in a list. Have a look at some of our awesome work!

Our Parachute Experiment

Thank you very much to everyone that donated material for our experiment!

Today we prepared our parachutes in groups.

We measured out a square with sides of 20cm. We then cut out the square and punched holes in the corners. It was important to keep the squares all the same size to ensure that the experiment is fair and is reliable.

We then measured our four pieces of string that were 20cm long each. This is what we will use to attach the parachute to our figures next week.

We are so excited to carry out our experiment after the October week. We wonder if our hypothesis will be correct.

In P3a we have been exploring Glasgow and comparing it to Newton Mearns. We have researched famous landmarks and we were really excited when we looked at Kelvingrove Art Museum.

We took part in an art activity where we had to use 2d shapes to form Kelvingrove. After we had drawn the building we then coloured it in using water pencils. We enjoyed using these because you could blend the colours together and create fantastic colours.

We have also created some fantastic pieces of writing related to Kelvingrove. We have been working on using similes, adjectives and alliteration.

Below are our ‘Mystery Writers’ work from this week. Our’ Mystery Writers’ achieved their success criteria and tried very hard to make their writing interesting for the reader.

Can you see your work below?

Science Enquiry

In P3a.2 we are carrying out a scientific enquiry. We are carrying out research to prove or disprove our hypothesis that silk will make the best parachute.

To allow us to carry out this experiment we are looking for some scraps of the following materials

silk, cotton and leather

If you have any scraps of these materials we would be very grateful if you could send them in by Thursday the 10th of October.

Below are some pictures of us completing our science enquiry plan.
