Monday 23 March – Today’s Home Learning Tasks

Good morning everyone. We hope you are all well rested and enjoyed the weekend sunshine. Click on the link below  to see your home learning tasks for today. You can upload pictures of your work to Seesaw for us to review. Please remember the internet safety rules and do not include people in your pictures.

Today’s Tasks

Class Novel

We are going to be doing some work in class and at home with our class novel The Titanic Detective Agency.  Please let us know by Friday 20th March if you are able to source a copy of your own as we have a limited number of them in school.

Shaving Foam Spelling

Some of us had fun with shaving foam spelling today.  We looked at a word for a little while and then tried to write it in the foam, this time without looking.  And don’t worry – we were being careful about germs and had our own foam instead of sharing with a friend!

Sport Relief

Here we are celebrating  having completed our Sport Relief activities outside.  (Some of our furry friends are celebrating too!)  We had great fun shooting baskets, tossing beanbags and beating goalies.  We even had some sunshine!  Thanks to all who sent in donations – your support is much appreciated.  Thanks also to the Sports Leaders – they worked hard all day  to make sure that everyone had lots of fun while raising money for a good cause.

Visit from the Dogs’ Trust

Here are  a couple of pictures from our Dogs’ Trust visit.  We learned a lot about the things you need to think about before you decide to get a dog and how to keep your dog healthy and happy when you do get it.

We really enjoyed the visit.  Some of us were hoping that there would be a real dog to pat, but it probably wouldn’t be a good idea because not everyone likes to get close to dogs and some dogs might be a bit scared if they saw so many children!

Titanic Sketches

We have been using our laptops to look at paintings of Titanic by the artist Ken Marschall and comparing his realistic style with paintings by other artists.  His paintings are so detailed that some of us thought they were photographs at first!  We also like how he paints light and shadows.

We thought we would have a go too.  Here are some pictures of us sketching our own versions of Titanic while listening to some of the music that was actually played on the ship.  Tomorrow we’ll start painting!

Hit The Button

Good games for practising number bonds, multiplication, etc.   Spheres could begin by practising multiplying by 3 and 4, Cubes could begin by practising multiplying by 6 and 7  and Pyramids could begin by practising multiplying by 8 and 9.  Of course, when you feel very confident with these tables, you might want to challenge yourself by trying  some of the other multiplication tables as well!

Everybody will benefit from practising number bonds to 10, 20 and 100.  The more you practise, the more your speed and accuracy will improve!  Try some different games to discover what you already feel confident about and what you still need to work on.

Multiplication Tables Songs

Here is a link to some simple multiplication songs with a reggae feel to make us forget about the cold, stormy weather!   Sometimes music and rhythm help us to remember things more easily, so lots of children find that songs are a good way to practise their multiplication tables. Remember that you might find it helpful to stick to one or two tables until you get really good at them before you move on to try some of the other ones.  (See the suggested tables above.)
