OUTDOOR LEARNING CLOTHING – AMENDMENT
Different outdoor learning experiences offer opportunities for personal and learning skills development in areas such as communication, problem solving, information technology, working with others and thinking skills. Learning in the outdoors can make significant contributions to literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing. Therefore, outdoor learning offers many opportunities for learners to deepen and contextualise their understanding within curriculum areas, and for linking learning across the curriculum in different contexts and at all levels.

At Kirkhill Primary we strive to provide regular outdoor learning experiences for all our children. As a school we have a fantastic outdoor space which can be used across the curriculum to develop our children socially, emotionally and academically. During last session we had a super Science Garden added to our fantastic Eco garden and we can’t wait to explore here and other areas of our school grounds!
To allow all pupils to access outdoor learning in the changeable Scottish weather, we would appreciate the children bringing in outdoor clothing (wellies, rain jackets and trousers) on days they will be learning outdoors. Class teachers will let you know via the class blogs the days that these are required so that you can keep them at home on other days. Also, if you have any spare items which your child is not using any more and you are happy to give these to the school, please put this in a bag with it clearly labelled as spare clothing for the school to allow items to be shared with our families.

Welcome Back!
Primary 6b have been working so hard during the first few weeks of term and have made Mr Tyler and Miss Flynn feel very welcome. P5 Talents and Achievements
Zaydan told us about his family celebrations for Eid. He showed the class his lego master truck which he got with his money and told us he was able to build it independently in one night!
Alexis enjoys writing songs in her spare time. She performed her song about marmalade this afternoon and everyone danced along.
Well done P5b! Please keep sharing your talents and achievements with the class.
Class Debate
This morning, the children held a debate. They chose to debate whether they should wear a school uniform or not.
Each person chose which side they wanted to be on. Ayaan wrote some of the points on the whiteboard for ‘Against’ and Dylan wrote the opinions ‘For’ keeping a school uniform.
These are some of the points raised:
Against
‘Wearing a school uniform takes away your identity because you might like bright colours and you have to wear grey.’
Samantha
 ‘It takes too long to get ready in the morning. The collars are stiff, too many buttons and a tie to put on.’
Zaydan
 ‘You can choose clothes for the weather that day.’
Beth
 ‘You can wear your own clothes to gym and not have to change. I would wear a tracksuit on a gym day.’
Sean
 ‘The fabric in a school uniform isn’t comfortable when you are running around.’
Darcey
 ‘You might want to wear clothes for your culture.’
Alexis

‘It’s good to represent your own school and people might laugh at your own clothes.’
Dylan
 ‘You might get lost when you go on a school trip.’
Sarah
 ‘It takes too long to organise your own clothes and you need a lot of choices.’

 ‘Buying a school uniform is cheaper.’

 ‘Fundraising opportunities for wearing your own clothes to school. That way we make lots of money for our school.’

‘Wearing your school uniform makes your mind ready for school and you will concentrate better. It gives you a good routine.’

At the end of the debate Jenson offered a solution which many of the children on both sides cheered to,
‘Why don’t we wear a school uniform Monday to Thursday and have a dress down day on a Friday!’
The children loved debating this question. Sarah and Alexis were very passionate about this topic!
National Numeracy Day
To celebrate National Numeracy Day we have been taking part in lots of different activities. We have been doing some cutting and sticking to help us learn our multiplication tables.
Some groups of children have been playing maths games to help learn place value and numbers up to 1000.
This group have made some of their own maths games that they will teach their friends how to play!
We have had a great day celebrating the wonderful world of Numeracy 🙂
