This Isn’t Goodbye 1c!

What an amazing year it has been! No words can express how brilliant everyone has been and what wonderful young people they have grown to be throughout the year.

We have had amazing memories throughout the year from our fantastic Rainforest Assembly (who can forget that dance?) to our Teddy Bear Picnics or in general our learning that has taken place daily.

I am so proud of you all and I cannot wait to see you grow even more! Have a wonderful summer holiday.

You will all be missed dearly. Stay safe and have fun!

Lots of love,

Miss Amin x

Hard Working Pupils in 1C!

Hello,

Welcome back to our blog, we can’t wait for you to see all the amazing learning that has been happening in our class throughout the last few weeks.

Sports Day just ended and it was such a fantastic event, we all had fun participating in all the games and races!

We have completed our Rainforest topic and are now exploring Nutrition, Health and Safety.

Here are a few pictures of us showcasing our learning and posters for the different animal groups!

We have been practicing to use the Green Cross Code to ensure we are keeping ourselves safe when crossing the road.

Also, we have been learning the importance to keep ourselves safe in dangerous situations! Here we completed a cut and stick, we had to decide whether a situation was safe or unsafe.

Within our Health Topic, we are looking at ways to keep ourselves happy and healthy. We have been exploring the Eat Well Plate and learning how to have a balanced diet. Soon we will be learning how to make delicious healthy meals like a fruit salad.

Outdoor Learning

As the sun is shining on us now, we have been investigating shadows! We then completed an Art activity to draw and sketch a shadow that was reflecting from an object.

As always, we are using our team work skills to make the most amazing dens we can!

Numeracy and Mathematics

We have become super confident in being able to partition two digit numbers into tens and ones!

Now our addition and subtraction skills have become advanced, we are now able to make complex number bonds which have huge numbers!

We have also been practicing to make symmetrical patterns using different loose parts.

We are easily able to identify a 1/2 as a fraction and know two halves make a whole. Therefore, we have been learning about quarters!

Within the areas, we have the opportunity to explore lots of different areas of Maths. Here we are sorting days of the week into the correct order and months of the year.

Literacy

We have been practicing when to use a full stop correctly as quite often we are placing them in the wrong place. We are continuing to get better at this!

We are now able to understand the purpose of a speech bubble. We were using our imaginations to create a context within the speech bubbles for the different characters.

We always use our imagination to inform our writing too! This helps us add in more detail and information within our stories.

As we have become confident in identifying different phonemes and alternative sounds, we are beginning to increase our fluency within reading. We were reading a different book each and then writing a book review about it.

We can’t believe school is about to end! We will be continuing to work extremely hard before the end of term!

Awesome Learning in 1c

Numeracy and Mathematics

Last week we had the pleasure of having visits from parents who shared their knowledge with us on how they use all the different curricular areas within their job! It was fascinating to listen to their jobs. We have also been exploring symmetry and began learning about tens and ones!

We went on a Maths Treasure hunt around the entire school which was great fun! We managed to solve all the questions and even the bonus question too.

Literacy

We have been using non-fiction books to learn about facts and information. We are super confident in using the contents and index page to locate information.

We continue to read unseen challenging texts to practice blending and reading tricky words.

To help with our sequencing of Instructional Writing we were sequencing different events.

We are also learning alternative sounds!

Rainforest

We are so excited to share with you our learning about the Rainforest in our Assembly show next week! We won’t give too much away but we will show our amazing tents we were building for our ‘imaginary’ animals!

We were learning about different animal groups and went to the Woodland area to explore if we could find any mammals, amphibians, birds or insects.

We can’t wait to see you all next week at our class show Assembly!

The End of Term 3 Learning in 1c

Welcome back to Primary 1c’s blog! We can’t wait to show you what we have been learning and exploring in school.

A huge congratulations to Sophie and Ellis for making it through to the finals for Crookfur’s Got Talent. They performed and danced amazingly with so much confidence in front of the whole school. Well done!

ICT

Within ICT we have became confident in being able to log in, use different programmes such as ActivInspire and are now able to access Internet Explorer to access a website.

Now we are learning about Microsoft Word and how to use the different tools within this.

Literacy

In Literacy we continue to expand our knowledge about the properties of non-fiction books. We are able to locate information using the contents page and use the index page.

We are sorting out pictures that rhyme with the heading! We use our knowledge of sounds to determine if it rhymes.

We continue to practice tricky words from our Common Words to ensure we know how to read and spell it correctly.

We are also practising to solve the missing letters within an alphabet!

Within Writing, we have been learning how to write instructions. We know that instructions require numbered steps and openers.

On Monday, we wrote about making a Fruit Salad. Before this, we were using our listening skills as we recorded notes about making a fruit salad that would be used to inform our instructional writing.

‘Silly sentences’ is a fun game within Literacy we love to do! We have to make a sentence using random pictures shown to us. Our sentences show we can punctuate our sentences correctly.

Numeracy and Mathematics

We continue to practice adding and subtracting to 10 mentally!

At the easel, we were trying to beat the timer by completing all the sums on the board! We were able to beat the timer!

We are linking addition and subtraction with Money and are able to complete questions and word problems relating to this.

We are also linking addition and subtraction sums together by making fact families!

Ordering numbers to 100 was too easy! As a challenge we have been practising to order numbers to 1000 – which we can do too!

We are able to recognise different shapes and identify how many corners and edges it has.

We had to explore different shapes and identify its properties.

Learning Experiences across Indoors and Outdoors

In the construction area, we have been so inventive and creative in our creations. We have been building houses relating to our fact families within addition and subtraction and created houses for our animals!

Within the art area, we continue to use our colour wheel chart to help us create different colours by mixing paints together.

Outdoors we are building dens and continue to work as a team by listening to each others ideas.

We are mixing different paints together to create our desired colour.

We built and created a bird feeder to allow birds to each and drink water from P1!

This is the end of Term 3, however after the Easter Holidays we will come back ready and excited to learn more!

Have a great and safe Easter Holiday everyone!

Have a Look at Our Learning in 1c!

Welcome back to our blog! Our blog is going to start off by showing you how much fun we had completing the Muddy Trail with our friends! Although the obstacle course was challenging it was great fun!

Money

In Maths, we are exploring money in more depth. We are practising to make different amounts using coins which we can add together.

We are also revising our addition and subtraction skills through many different practical activities.

Literacy

We are becoming much more confident in being able to blend our sounds together to create words.

We are also practicing our recognition for rhyming words.

We have a writing basket which we are able to explore. We used the information within the basket to write a story about spiders.

As we are coming to an end on our topic about Toys, we wrote a film review about Toy Story. We wrote what our favourite part was and what the book was about.

We can read, write and draw words correctly which have tricky phonemes within it!

Dance

We are having such a great time working with our peers to create dances which contain three or more different dance moves.

We are using our team work skills and communication skills to work together to create different dance routines.

Art

We have been exploring Pointillism! We studied different artists and paintings which captured this skill. As Spring is soon approaching, we create our own interpretation of what Spring looks like to us.

We then created a sign using Pointillism for our new wall display which shows our amazing and artistic work.

Outdoor Learning

We continue to make creative and challenging dens with our peers which requires problem solving skills.

We created a banquet of food for our friends in the tent.

Senses

As we have completed our Topic of Toys, we have began our new topic all about Senses.

To start our new topic, we went on a Field Walk and used our senses to record what we see, hear, feel, smell and taste.

In class, we explored different senses stations. At this station we had to use our sight to find the hidden words and record them on our sheet.

This was a smelling station! There were lovely smells but also horrible smells too. We could smell perfume, vinegar, strawberry and blueberry scented play dough.

At the touching table, we had to use our senses to solve what we could feel within the box. We felt rough pebbles, soft sponges, pine cones and a tub of water!

This table was the tasting table. We had to describe what we could taste. We described the bananas as ‘creamy and slimy’. The apples as ‘crunchy’ and the grapes as ‘soft and squishy’.

Stay tuned to see what appears on our blog next!

Primary 1c in Action!

Welcome back to our blog! Our blog is starting off by showing you all our learning that  has taken place through our topic of Toys!

We created our favourite toy using different materials. We used junk modelling, plastic, metal and cardboard. Most materials we used were recycled as we realise the importance of reusing diferent things!

Using digital technology, we then created our favourite toy using different tools on the computer. We are becoming more confident in being able to access different tools on the computer to make our work far more intricate.

One of our questions we wanted to learn about was how are toys made?

We then studied how toys are made. We know old toys were made out of wood and metal and new toys are made out of plastic. Here is an example of posters we made about how a toy is made.

We were so lucky to have a visitor come to see us who knew everything about toys in the past! We had the opportunity to explore toys which dated all the way from the 1920’s.

One of our favourite stories in class is ‘Toy Story’. As this book and film is all about toys we wrote a film review on it! We are becoming more confident in using our sounds to write tricky words.

Here we are sorting out old toys and new toys using our knowledge we had learnt from our visitor and non-fiction books about toys!

Within toys, we have also learnt about forces. We know that toys can either be pushed or pulled.

Other Areas:

In Numeracy, we have spent time linking our knowledge of addition and subtraction within Money. We are practising to make different amounts using coins.

Number bonds are so important! We are so fast at recalling number bonds extremely quickly. We were beating the timer to sort the number bonds under the correct number.

Numbers beyond 20 is what we are all continuing to practice too! We are practising to ensure we write the number correct way!

We are also beating the timer to sort the number bonds under the correct number!

When we are outdoors, we also practice completing addition questions!

Also Outdoors, as a team we were creating a huge tent!

Within our tent, we wanted water to travel within the the middle of it. We worked hard to find different resources that would work to travel water from the top to the bottom!

We used bamboo shoots that were held between the fences and were secure. This allowed for water to travel all the way to the middle and we used a white tub to collect the water that was pouring down. The crates were used to help us reach the bamboo shoots!

Stay tuned to see what learning takes place in our class next time :)!

Welcome to our First Blog of 2019 in 1C!

We are so excited to be back at school! As always, we are continuing to work hard through all learning experiences.

Literacy

We are becoming much more faster at recognising phonemes (such as ai, ie, oa and ee) within tricky words. We are using our knowledge of sounds to help read these tricky words!

To help us learn, we play many different activities by using magnetic letters and roll and read games.

We are reading unseen texts to help us become faster at recognising phoneme words.

Within Writing, we are using our sounds to create sentences. We are trying to remember to use a capital letter at the start of the sentence and a full stop at the end with good finger spaces.

In the sand area, we are creating stories. Every story needs a character therefore we made some in the sand using different materials.

Common words are words which we use in all of our sentences everyday. We practice to read and write them correctly.

Numeracy and Mathematics

In Maths, we have became so confident in our number bonds, we are now able to use this skill to add sums beyond 20.

We are using different strategies to add three numbers together. As we know our number bonds so well, we are able to complete these sums with effectively.

As number bonds are so important, we play different games and activities to ensure we can make number bonds correctly for a given number.

Numbers to 100 are super tricky! However, with practice we are becoming much more able at being able to sequence numbers to 100.

We have made numbers using blocks!

Outdoor Learning

We were using different outdoor materials to help complete tricky addition questions.

We created a stable see-saw !

As a team, we worked together to make a den. We used our problem solving to skills to make sure it was stable, had a roof which didn’t fall and ensured it was safe.

We created a ‘water machine’. We worked together to make the water travel across different beams at different speeds.

We also mark make and create stories outdoors!

Gymnastics

We are completing obstacles courses within Gymnastics. We are using our skills we have learned to complete the course. Such as balancing, completing different travelling movements and doing forward/backward rolls from a bench.

Welcoming a Baby

We have  just completed our topic for Welcoming a Baby! We were learning different traditions which take place in different religions.

Here we were exploring Christianity and explored churches, gowns and baptism within this religion.

We will begin our new topic of ‘Toys’ this week! We planned our topic together as everyone wrote down what we already knew about toys. Then we created questions on what we would like to learn throughout our topic.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 1c!

Welcome back to our blog! In the run up to Christmas we have continued to work extremely hard.

Literacy

We were creating Christmas cards for our family using different materials. We were using our phoneme mat to help us sound out tricky words!

We are becoming much faster at recognising all of the different phonemes. We are creating words with different sounds and identifying the correct picture to match the correct sound.

With our magnetic letters and on the eazel, we are practising how to read and spell out our common words such as my, me, the, said and can.

We have created a rhyming word bank with words that end in -an!

Using our imagination, we were writing a story using the props at the tuff spot. We remember to use finger spaces and a full spot when writing sentences.

Here we have done an amazing job at creating a word bank with different phonemes.

Ben was doing a fantastic job at creating words with ‘oo’ sound!

As a group, we were decoding tricky words with phonemes. We were reading, writing and drawing the correct picture which matched the word.

Numeracy and Mathematics

We have been learning about number bonds and what they are! We have been using our problem solving skills to create different sums to make a number i.e. number bonds for 5 include 5+0, 3+2, 2+3.

We are becoming much faster at adding two numbers together as we are putting the bigger number within our head and counting on.

We have also revisited repeating patterns but this time they have been more complex to complete!

In Measurement and Weight, we have been exploring different objects to decipher which one is the heaviest and lightest. We have also been using non-standard units to measure items using cubes, paper clips.

French

We were exploring different ways to greet people in French. We created a Greeting poster showing our self saying Bonjour or Salut to our friend using speech bubbles.

Outdoor Learning

We wanted to create a balancing beam to balance across to different areas. We made sure it was safe by making it secure and steady.

Harry is exploring his sounds outdoors!

We were measuring and weighing different objects outdoors. We know that if both sides are the same, it is equal!

We created an amazing den using different materials and were charging our friends to enter it!

Christmas Fun!

We have been incorporating Christmas through everything that we do, whether it is writing Christmas stories, completing tricky art work or answering challenging Christmas themed maths games. It has been so exciting and fun!

Our Christmas party was amazing! We got to play many party games, sing songs and dance with our friends. The most magical part of they day was when we got to meet Santa!

We can’t believe how fast Primary 1 has past by since the beginning of August 2018. We have created many memories already from our very first day of school, from writing our first word and reading our first word! And who can forget our amazing nativity we completed as a whole year group!

We will come back from our holidays refreshed and ready to create more fantastic memories in 2019!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone ☺!

It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas! (1c)

Welcome back to our blog! Just as our title suggests, we are so close to the of end term before we break off for Christmas and New Years! However, we are still continuing to work extremely hard every day.

A little over two weeks, we had a very special surprise delivered to Primary 1c.

It was a box with a special gift inside…

First there was a letter stating that Santa had sent down a helper to watch us closely.

It was Santa’s Elf! We had to be careful when touching the Elf as we didn’t want it to lose its magic so we had to wear gloves if we wanted to touch him.

He even put a camera to keep a close eye on us from the North Pole which is placed on top of our board!

The next thing we had to do was to name our elf. We took a class vote and Elvis came up as the winner by having 6 votes!

Later on in the afternoon, we had lots of creative fun decorating our classroom.

We also received a wonderful gift from Ross for our classroom. Thank you Ross!

We also spent time preparing our Christmas Craft Teddy Bears and made a ‘Care for a Bear’ sign for our P1 stall.

Literacy

Within Literacy, we have been working so hard to read tricky words and sentences! Every morning, we come into school having received a new message on our Santa chimney.

We try to read his sentence by using our sounds to blend the words out and reply to his question each day.

We also have an Elf Diary for Elvis. We are keeping track of what Elvis gets up to every day and record it inside our diary!

With our reading books, we have been working on sequencing and recalling information.

We have been solving jumbled sentences and by reading the words we have been able to figure out how to unjumble the sentence.

Phonemes are being practiced continuously! We want to make sure we can use our phonemes to write tricky word easily.

In our class Library, we continue to read for enjoyment by choosing different books  to read everyday.

As it was book bug week, we read the three amazing books gifted to us. Using our knowledge of all three books, we created a poster stating which book was our favourite and why. We even presented it to the class!

Being able to recognise and spell our sight vocabulary is becoming much more easier!

Numeracy

We have become masters at recording information in Data Handling! We can use different charts to record and read information.

Olivia-Rose has done a great job at identifying the next repeating pattern.

Fractions

We have been exploring what it means to share objects equally. In our teddy bear picnic, we were given different objects and had to sort them out to make sure it was equal between all three of us.

We done this correctly and learned for it to be equal we all had to have the same amount. Our next challenge was to share bread and a banana between our self and our bear. we then figured that we had to cut the bread in to half which makes two equal amounts!

We also know that two halves make a whole!

Another challenge we had to complete was sharing and sorting out different foods between to lunch boxes. Again, we solved this problem!

Addition

We are now learning how to add three numbers together and exploring different ways to solve the question!

Outdoor Learning

We wanted to create a new den in our playground. Using different materials, we created a roof and flooring.

We created a sign which says ‘Den’!

And made some food to keep us fuelled with energy with some yummy hot chocolate and marshmallow sticks.

Art

We are exploring different materials and textures to create Christmas Craft for our family and friends.

In other News…

We all continue to work hard to get our amazing Christmas Star of the Day Bag!

A huge congratulations to these Superstars for gaining an amazing award!

Our Amazing Learning Experiences in 1C

Welcome back to our blog! We are continuing to work extremely hard through all our learning experiences both indoor and outdoor!

In class, we always demonstrate great team work with our peers when completing different activities.

In the construction area, we built a huge mansion and its house number was 7!

Outdoors, we were working together to push the bicycle up the steep hill.

Outdoors we were practicing to create addition sums!

We found it extremely tricky to climb this large pallet! We worked together to help climb to the top.

We were so happy when we reached to the top!

We wanted to create a balancing beam which could support our weight. However, we realised it wasn’t safe enough so we pushed the log to make it more secure.

Here you can see our creativity being shown through our ‘Yucky Mucky’ dinner! We counted out how many guests we were having and ensured we made everything symmetrical.

Literacy

Ben is practicing to read and write CVC words!

We are working hard to use our sounds to create sentences using finger spaces!

Sarah is doing a great job at creating a rhyming list for phonemes such as ‘ee’!

We are becoming much better at identifying different sounds in words.

Do you like our sound posters? We are demonstrating our ability to recognise different sounds.

As a team, we worked hard to sort the pictures to the correct sound.

ICT

We all worked hard to complete Literacy games online!

Numeracy and Mathematics

In the sand area, we were exploring addition sums and trying to mentally solve the answer.

Number bonds are so important,  we continue recalling number facts for numbers up to 10 everyday.

We will be back soon with more amazing pictures of our learning!
