Week Beginning 29.1.24

Wow, what a week!

Mr Wilson

With Mr Wilson we made phones with cups and string. We were learning about sound vibrations and the ear. He even let us take them home.

Timelines

In IDL we were learning about defending democracy and the suffragettes so we made time lines of what happened and when.

Sarah Kwan Art

Sarah Kwan is a famous Chinese artist, she combines different things from different places since it is almost Chinese new year and it was Burns night we combined things from China and things from Scottland and made our own masterpieces.

Woodland

In woodland some people were making dens while others were creating things with nature.

Week beginning 22.1.24

This week we started our new topic! Defending Democracy. Mrs Rasul played a little joke on everyone and asked us to vote for what we would like to do for P.E. next week. Once we had our choices on a post – it note she only collected in the votes from the girls. This made the boys a little angry and they thought it was unfair… until Mrs Rasul told us all that we are going to learn about a time when women were not allowed to vote and the suffragettes. It was a fun way to start a new topic.

Other learning this week includes:

Research for suffragettes versus suffragists

We are going to work in pairs to create comparison posters. So this week we completed some research about both organisations and found key information about both. We have started our posters on Canva and will continue them next week.

Symmetry

We had a look at symmetry in more complex shapes and how to identify lines of symmetry.

Multiculturalism

We explored work of Sarah Kwan. She combines Scottish and Chinese culture to create some lovely art. This week we planned our own art projects which will combine the 2 cultures. Next week we will work on turning these into masterpieces!

Week Beginning 15.1.24

What an icy, cold week it has been. And what a lovely way to end, with the house spirit afternoon! Here are a few of the things we have learned this week:

Famous Mathematicians

This week we all researched different mathematicians and how they have impacted the world with their discoveries. This was really interesting as we learned where some of our important maths concepts are used in todays inventions. After researching about the mathematician of our choice we created PowerPoints and some of us chose to make posters.

Newspaper Report writing

We have started our writing topic on newspaper reports. We had a chance to read some different articles from ‘The Happy News’ and looked closely at the opening paragraphs. We were finding the 5 Ws (Who, When, Where, What, Why) Then we had a go at writing our own first paragraph of a newspaper.

Yoga

Since it was super icy and the muga and woodland area was not safe this morning, we decided to do some yoga in the class. This was nice and relaxing. We then ended it with some Just Dance and Bollywood.

First week of 2024!

Happy new year! We have had a great first week back and very busy indeed.

Here is a little snippet of what we have been doing:

We all got new books. We are reading the house across the quaggy which is about 3 kids finding out information about a big old house.

First we did comprehension on Northern Light and then in the afternoon we did a calendar art on Northern Lights.

Gymnastics

The class did a lot of flexible stretches in Gymnastics and then a lot of people attempted a headstand or a handstand.

We did a STEM  challenge with our new Science and Spanish teacher Mr. Wilson where we had to make a track for a toy car.

Writing – What I didn’t do in my holiday

We wrote a wonderful recount on a fiction holiday that you would have gone or been on. Everybody had a lot of fun.

Week before the Christsmas holidays!

We have been feeling very festive this week and have kept busy doing festive things!

P7 lessons

We have had the opportunity to teach our planned lessons to different classes. We taught P1C, 2c, 4/5 and 6C a wide range of lessons including art, literacy and drama. We had a lot of positive feedback and the children really enjoyed our lessons. We think we could be mini teachers!

Tinkercad

We were given a design brief where we had to create a reindeer shelter on Tinkercad. (online tool) It was really fun and all of us had different ideas. We had to include a shelter, water supply and somewhere for them to eat. We were then allowed to decorate it the way we wanted.

Grinch Art

For art this week we all drew a Grinch holding a bauble with our initials on it. This was so much fun to do. After drawing it we used oil pastels or paint to colour it in. We tried to create shadows with different shades of colours. Mrs Rasul made one for Noah too!

Christmas Craft

For our Christmas craft we used glue guns and scrabble tiles to create a festive ribbon accessory. These can be hanged on Christmas trees or anywhere you like. Some of us chose festive words while others chose names of pets/family members.

Week beginning 11.12.23

Here is a little snippet of our week.

P2C Nativity

We had the opportunity to watch the P2C nativity dress rehearsal. It was really entertaining and they did a really good job!

Planning lessons for other classes

This week we have been working in groups to plan Christmas/Winter themed lessons to other classes. We chose ideas across different areas of art, drama and literacy. Then we wrote lesson plans with learning intentions and success criteria and made a list of the resources we need. We will go to the classes next week to deliver these lessons. We can’t wait!

Big Cat reading

We all finished our reading books this week. (Macbeth, The Grey Ghost and Trixie Tempest) We answered some questions and then some of us created new front covers for the books.

Some of completed our own surveys across the whole of P7 to find out the favourite ice cream flavour and crisps flavour.

Scratch

We had our final session of Scratch where we had the chance to create our very own game now that we have learned some skills. This was fun because we then shared these games with each other so that we had the chance to play everyone’s.

Spanish with Miss Ralston

With Miss Ralston we were learning about Christmas in Mexico and making posters about different things Mexican people do on Christmas and Christmas eve and decorating it.

Week Beginning 4.12.23

What a busy week of learning! Christmas jumper day was the perfect way to end this week. We have been delighted with all of our presents and are excited to take them home.

Here is a little snippet of our week:

Parachutes

We made parachutes with Mrs Ralston. We were only given few materials (paper, plastic bag and strings). It was found hard for some and easy for others. The parachutes helped slow down the dinosaurs using air resistance.

Reading circles

We were discussing stories (Macbeth, The grey ghost, Trixie tempest) The reading circles were reading, predicting, questioning etc that helped us with answering questions from the story.

Cosy corner

We all enjoyed making the fireplace, stockings and decorating the  Christmas tree in the cosy corner; We loved the way it turned out, it looks magical and beautiful and we enjoy doing our work there.

Xmas jumper day/present room

Week ending 1.12.2023

It is the 1st of December and today we started decorating our class to get ready for the Christmas fun. We all collectively helped to decorate our class tree and then made a cosy fireplace in our cosy corner. We each decorated our own Christmas stocking to add to our fireplace. Have a look at some of our amazing team work!

Road Safety Week has been busy with lots of new learning! Here is a snippet of our week this week.

The Apprentice Invention task

The last task for our apprentice topic was an invention task. We had to create a product and create a branding campaign for it. Then we had to prepare a pitch to present our product to Mrs Allan. Mrs Allan voted for her top three favourite. She chose the Medical box by Gridwear as 1st place, Track o Dog by Team Paws was her second favourite then Team Echo and Golden Odyssey were a tie at 3rd place.  Now that the topic is over, here are the overall results for all the tasks combined:

1st place: Team Echo

Road Safety Posters

For road safety week we made posters and the theme was to make posters to raise awareness of the speed 20 MPH near school areas. The JRSOs will decide the winning posters.

Scratch

We have started our block on coding and animated our names on Scratch. We were able to use movement and sound. Next week we will look at making games.

Health and Wellbeing – Sleep

We learned about the importance of sleep for a healthy lifestyle. We all created sleep action plans to see the benefits of sleep in our life. Here are some tips for a good sleep routine/habit:

  • Make sure you have a dark room to help you drift off.
  • Make sure your room is tidy – a clean environment is easier to relax in.
  • No devices or no screen time before bed.
  • Make sure you don’t junk food or sugar full foods before bed.
  • Keep your bed time routine consistent.
  • If you are worried about something, speak to an adult before bed or keep a diary or journal.
