Week ending 1.12.2023

It is the 1st of December and today we started decorating our class to get ready for the Christmas fun. We all collectively helped to decorate our class tree and then made a cosy fireplace in our cosy corner. We each decorated our own Christmas stocking to add to our fireplace. Have a look at some of our amazing team work!

Week beginning 20.11.23

Road Safety Week has been busy with lots of new learning! Here is a snippet of our week this week.

The Apprentice Invention task

The last task for our apprentice topic was an invention task. We had to create a product and create a branding campaign for it. Then we had to prepare a pitch to present our product to Mrs Allan. Mrs Allan voted for her top three favourite. She chose the Medical box by Gridwear as 1st place, Track o Dog by Team Paws was her second favourite then Team Echo and Golden Odyssey were a tie at 3rd place.  Now that the topic is over, here are the overall results for all the tasks combined:

1st place: Team Echo

2nd Place: Team Gridwear

3rd Place: Team Paws

Book Week Outdoor learning

For book week we went outside and created book cover freeze frames by using sticks, stones and things we found outside and someone from your team would take a picture with the Ipad.

Road Safety Posters

For road safety week we made posters and the theme was to make posters to raise awareness of the speed 20 MPH near school areas. The JRSOs will decide the winning posters.

Hand Art

We made some realistic hands using shading and fine lines. It was quite tricky but they turned out really good.

Scratch

We have started our block on coding and animated our names on Scratch. We were able to use movement and sound. Next week we will look at making games.

Health and Wellbeing – Sleep

We learned about the importance of sleep for a healthy lifestyle. We all created sleep action plans to see the benefits of sleep in our life. Here are some tips for a good sleep routine/habit:

  • Make sure you have a dark room to help you drift off.
  • Make sure your room is tidy – a clean environment is easier to relax in.
  • No devices or no screen time before bed.
  • Make sure you don’t junk food or sugar full foods before bed.
  • Keep your bed time routine consistent.
  • If you are worried about something, speak to an adult before bed or keep a diary or journal.

Matilda STEAL lesson

We read an extract from Matilda then used the STEAL analysis to explore Miss Trunchbull’s and Miss Honey’s characters. STEAL stands for Speech, Thoughts, Effects on others, Actions and looks.

Eastwood P.E.

At Eastwood P.E. We are now in mixed groups with the other P7s and doing a 6 week block of the same sport. The options include:

Football, Hockey, Tennis, Netball, Rugby and Athletics.

Diwali

We learned about the festival of Diwali and we made origami boats (for divas) and cool Rangoli patterns with square paper and they turned out really cool!

Reading books/Prediction

Today we just got our new reading books and we had to make predictions from only seeing the blurb and front cover. We had to predict the genre, setting, time period, characters and plot.

Percentages

This week we have learned how to find the percentage of an amount. We know 50% is a half so you divide by 2.

Heartstart

In Heartstart we learned how to save someone’s life if they had a heart attack, cardiac arrest, internal bleeding and choking.

Week beginning 30.10.23

Another fun filled, jam packed week of learning! It seems like we managed to do loads! Here is a little snippet of our week:

Tim Burton Art

Since it was Halloween, and we have been looking at spooky character descriptions, we decided to create some portraits in the style of Tim Burton. We used vine charcoal, charcoal pencils, white chalk to create these portraits. We used shading to create the shadows and they turned out wonderful!

Photography in Woodland area

We used our amazing photography skills to create some scenes using lego figures. We then used Ipads to take some cool pictures.

The Apprentice Sales Task

This week for our apprentice task we had to create a price list for biscuits and set up stalls to sell them in exchange for tokens. It was very interesting as we had to try different pricing strategies to make sure we were making sales.

Algebra

This week for maths we have been learning all about Algebra. It has been good because before we started we thought it would be tricky, but it is actually quite simple when you know what to do.

Week beginning 23.10.23

This week has been another busy one. We had our next Apprentice challenge which was a really interesting one! We have started writing character descriptions and watched a spooky video called Alma!

The Hotel room Renovation

We had a person come into class, her name was Tehmeena. She gave us a challenge to make a hotel renovation and we got to design the rooms. We created a mood board and created a budget sheet. We are excited to see who wins.

Alma

So the other day we watched a short movie called Alma it was about little girl Alma. She writes her name on a wall and then she sees a doll that look like her. She tried to open the door but she couldn’t get in and she throws a snow ball at the door then she walks  way but the door creaks open and then she touched  the doll and gets traps in the doll.

Show not tell

Today we wrote about a man running away from a monster and a kid who woke up on his birthday and an angry school teacher and a sad kid in the park. We used show not tell to write their emotions.

Wooden Puzzle

Our teacher Mrs Rasul bought a wooden puzzle and it is so fun to play with. It is hard to solve sometimes but I think its easy.

Week beginning 9.10.23

The week before October week has been a busy one indeed!

The Apprentice Adverts

This week Primary 7 created adverts and billboards for the ‘No Bovver Hoverboard’. They used Imovie on Ipads to create short adverts. This was so much fun!

STEM budgeting bridge task

We used collaboration skills to create a bridge with only paper, tape and paper clips. The bridge had to hold the weight of a bottle and each paper had a price so we were budgeting while building.

Woodland

This week in woodland, we created scenes using action figures and natural materials. Pictures coming soon….

Fractions, decimals and percentages

For maths we have been converting between fractions, decimals and percentages. We know 1/2 is 0.5 and 50%.

P.E. at Eastwood

This week it was not as wet and rainy as last week which was good! We had a chance to have a go at the football station and tennis.

Setting descriptions

For writing this week we wrote our final setting descriptions. We got to choose our own setting and people picked different ones. Some spooky settings, planet, beach and futuristic.

Week beginning 2.10.23 Maths Week

We have been doing loads of fun activities for Maths week this week. The theme has been Maths in Motion and we have used this to learn about speed, distance and time. Here are a few of the things we have been doing this week.

The Apprentice Branding task

In P7C our topic is The Apprentice and this week we were designing chocolate bars for a brand called Blazin Raisins.  We then sent them to other classes for them to vote for the one they thought was the best.

The group that came 3rd was: TEAM ECHO

2nd place was TEAM GRIDWEAR

1st place was GOLDEN ODYSSEY.

Maths Week Paper Plane Speed Challenge

For maths week this years theme was Maths in Motion so in P7C we made different types of airplanes but we had to make them using different angles so that it would go further and faster.  To find the speed we calculated the distance and divided it by time it took in seconds. We also learned that if you are trying to find the distance then you need to multiply speed by time.

Marble Run for Maths Week

Since this maths week theme was maths in motion P7C made a marble run using Kapla and we had to angle the Kapla correctly so that the marble could get from the start straight to the end.

Eastwood P.E.

In P.E instead of doing our normal P.E in the primary school we went to Eastwood on Thursday for P.E and got split into groups and we all did different things such as football, tennis and athletics. We will continue to do P.E in Eastwood for round about 9 weeks.

Week beginning 18.09.23

It has been a shorter week, but nonetheless a busy one!

We finally finished reading cloud busting and learned the importance of being a good friend, being kind and showing compassion.

We have started our new topic for the next 6 weeks and it is called ‘The Apprentice’. We are going to work in our teams to create a series of challenges over the coming weeks. We have decided our teams names this week and created logos for them. The teams are as follows:

Team Storm

Team Golden Odyssey

Team Echo

Team Paws

Team Gridwear

Team Diamond

We started a team building task which involved creating a group art (a house). This was so much fun and we can’t wait to finish it when we return!

Happy International Dot Day!

We have had a wonderful week of learning! From our first woodland day experience, to creating our own special dots to celebrate international dot day. Here is a little snippet of our week:

Fractions, Decimals and percentages

This week we have been doing decimals and percentages and how to convert between the three. We were also looking at the numbers after the decimal point eg tenths, hundredths and thousandths.

Changing poetry layouts

This Thursday we rewrote our poems into a lovely layout and we had a choice to do it on a Chromebook or with a piece of paper. We used different fonts and colours to highlight key vocabulary and figurative language.

Cloud busting

This week in Cloud busting we have read chapters 15-22! We are so close to finishing which we think will be next week.

International dot day

It is international dot day today (15th Spetember) and to celebrate we read the book, the dot, then created our own crazy dots to ‘make our mark’.

Woodland area

This week was our first woodland day. We explored the area and looked for different plants and insects.

Decimals in maths

We have been working on decimals all week doing three and two digit decimals.

Everybody was in a group and built towers. The requirements were: you had to build a storage area and a balcony and the tower had to be free standing.

Football in the muga

In the MUGA for P.E we played football and played matches of boys vs boys and girls vs girls. It was lots of fun.
