October 4th – 8th – Happy Holidays!!

Date – 08.10.21

P.E

This week in P.E, we played 2 games; red light, green light and octopus. For red light, green light, everybody except one person lines up on the line. The one person who doesn’t line up, stands at the other end of the playing end of the playing area. When the selected person shouts “green light!” all the players must run. When the selected person shouts “red light!” Everybody must stop running and stand still. If they catch you moving while it’s a red light, you are out. It was really fun!

Writing

This week in writing, we made a fact file about our current topic; titanic. We had to include lots of relevant facts and lots of things about the construction, the company that built it, the cost, the journey and lots more! It was lots of fun!

Spanish

For Spanish this week, Mrs Norman gave us all 7 bits of paper, each had a day of the week in spanish written on it. We had to put the days in order starting from monday. Afterwards, Mrs Norman said a day of the week, for example Sabado (saturday) and we had to put the days in order starting with Sabado. It was so much fun!

Social studies – Titanic

For our topic this week, Mrs Wilkinson came in and we talked about all of the different jobs on the Titanic. For example some of the jobs were – engineer, fireman, chef, musician, waiter and more! We were learning about the different people on the Titanic that did some of these jobs and if they survived or not. We got handed out a sheet and on the front we had to pick a job and write the qualities you need for that job and what skills you need. On the back we had the alphabet in morse code and we had to write a message for someone to decipher. It was lots of fun.

House captains and Senior Prefects

This week was an exciting week because we found out our house captains and senior prefects. We all gathered in the gym hall and met Mrs Slorach standing there excited with the badges. After a long wait we finally found out! Murray and Affan got it for fleming. Chloe and Charlotte got it for Livingstone. Hannah and Harry got it for Slessor, and finally Owen and Olivia got it for Stevenson. Now, the senior prefects. For 7A it was Ruby and Julia and for 7B Dilraj and John got it. Everyone was cheering and it was an amazing experience.

Maths

This week in maths we were doing long multiplication. The Fraction Force and Number Ninjas got 2 digit by 1 digit sums and the Graph Gang and Algebros got 2 digit by 2 digit and 3 digit by 2 digit. We learnt lots and it was really fun.

Primary 7B Welcome to October!

Blog Post

By Dilraj and Millie

Maths

Dilraj – Today we did a whole class area lesson. We went outside into the playground and measured different things such as the MUGA, gazebo, bench, art pod step and more. When we came back in, we all compared our answers and got an average on the area and perimeter of the MUGA. It was lots of fun. 🙂

Millie – Yesterday we went outside and tried to find angles in nature. We were working in teams of 2 or 3 and we had to find as many angles as possible. Some are: acute, right angle, obtuse, straight line, and reflex! There were lots of hidden angles nobody thought about. We came inside and compared what we found using a bar graph. It was so much fun!

Dilraj – On Tuesday, we had a HUGE debate about what jobs do not include maths. Everyone tried so hard to find one but Mrs Norman proved us wrong and told us every single job in the world includes some sort of maths. We debated for a whole hour!!

Millie – On Tuesday after the big debate, we were doing some maths week activities. There were 3 stations; one was sumdog, one was stem which included making calculations out of playdough and making shapes and measuring the area, and the last one was playing maths games with Mrs Norman. It was really fun and I think everyone enjoyed it!

Titanic

Dilraj – On Wednesday, we talked more about our Titanic topic and discussed a few ideas on how we could create a Titanic model for our classroom. We ended up deciding on making a 2D model that we could hang from the ceiling. Millie and Hannah drew a rough outline of the ship and then Mrs Norman split the ship into 33 sections and all got allocated a piece to colour in, such as if you had a funnel, you would colour that in yellow. The end result turned out awesome and it was so fun to make.

Millie – Yesterday, we all got given a printed-out picture from the Titanic, these could be a 3rd class bedroom, the pool, the grand staircase and so many more! We had a couple of minutes to write what you would hear, see, smell, taste, feel and touch if you were there. We also wrote a few describing words on it as well. Once we had finished that, we started writing on the picture you wanted to write about. Some people wrote about the 1st class bedroom, some people wrote about the boiler room, but there were so many other places to write about. It was very fun.

P.E

Dilraj – On Thursday we did P.E in the muga. We got put into groups and we had cones set out. Each group got a javelin and we had to throw it, if you got it past the white cone, you got 10 points. If you get it past the blue cone, you get 20 points and if you get it past the green cone, you get 30 points. After some throws, we did elimination rounds. After a serious competition, Kaiden won.

Literacy

Millie – for literacy this week, we did some reading on our books. Black Panther is reading Treasure Island, Iron Man is reading Eerie Encounters, Captain Marvel is reading Eager, and Hulk is reading Take a run and Jump. After we had read a few pages of our book, we went down and discussed it with our group and our teacher. Our books are very interesting! 🙂

Maths

Murray- in graph gang we have started the new topic of volume, it has been very good so far. As a challenge we measured our class the final calculation by The Graph Gang, it was 167,400,000 cm3

This was done by Finlay.

John- For the Algebros we have been Calculating Are of shapes

Fraction Force have been doing estimating and rounding

And the Number Ninjas are doing calculations.

Reading

Murray- The reading groups have started their books

Black Panther- Treasure Island

Iron Man- Eerie Encounters

Captain Marvel- Eager

Hulk- Take a run and jump

We have also started doing comprehension.

Social Studies – Titanic

Murray- For Titanic we have been looking at what happened before the Titanic set sail and took notes for writing in a week’s time.

John- Right now we are learning about how our engineers built the Titanic and the Olympic (Titanic’s sister ship)

John- Near when the Titanic sinks we will be given slips to say if we Survived or Died. 492 People survived out of 2,240 passengers. The chances of 1st  surviving were 61%, the chances of 2nd chance surviving are 42% and the chances of 3rd class surviving were 24%, And for the crew 214 of the crew survived, 24% survival chance for the Crew, 22% for Male crew and 87% Female crew survived. And 20% of the Male passengers survived and 75% of the Female passengers survived.

John- Here is a more in-depth view of the crew survival, 50% of the Navigation Officers survived (4 out of 8), Sadly 0% of the Engineers survived (There were a total of 25 engineers and they were all trying to keep the boat afloat). And 100% of the Lookouts (1st, 2nd and 3rd Officers) survived. How many children survived??? Well out of 109 children (including babies) 53 survived. And out of all the survivors, the ship’s Head Baker Charles Joughin, he is believed to be the very last survivor to leave the ship, and he claimed that barely even his head got wet!

All 3rd Class Passengers- 3rd Class Deserve Rights!

Writing

John- For writing this week we have re-drafting our favorite piece of Poetry.

In art we completed our ice cream models with Mrs Hutchinson.

In the woodland today we went digging for worms. We counted how many adults and adolescents and we will try a different area next week. We found 129 worms altogether!

This week in maths:

John – The Algebros have started to finish our topic Algebra, we have been practising our equations like {5a = 20, a = 4}, {5 + 𝑥 = 12, 𝑥 = 7}.

Murray- For the Graph Gang we have finished our topic of Area, where we have done compound shapes and right angled triangles, now we have made a sheet saying what we have learned, what we want to practice and how we know we have achieved our goals for this topic.

John – And for the Fraction Force and the Number Ninjas they have been doing weight and seeing what is equal (e.g. 2 apples = a box).

John – And to end the first part we all did an ‘Exit Card’ which showed Mrs Norman what we have learned, what we want to learn, and what we need more support with.

Literacy

John- For Writing we have been continuing poetry and this week we did an Emotion Poem focusing on our emotions. All the poems were fantastic!

Murray-we had  to make a word list for wraparound spelling , our spelling words were short e words, we finished it for this week and did a spelling check.

Spanish

John – In Spanish we made birthday cards for each other, and on the front and the back we had to write Happy Birthday in Spanish (feliz cumpleaños.)

Murray- We have also been taught the months of the year with the amazing teacher, Mrs Norman.

Titanic

John- For our topic, Titanic we have been given our roles as First Class, Second Class, Third Class and Crew. We are all looking forward to learning about the Titanic through the view of our characters.

Murray- we made our passports with our occupation, who we are with and where we come from.

Woodland

This week in the woodland we took our numeracy learning outdoors and made real life scales. pegged out areas and created equations. Mrs Norman was impressed with our application.

P7 fantastic week!

Written by – Holly and Natalia

Natalia – Today on Friday Algebros started basic Algebra for now. x+5=9   what does X equal? We did a TJ 2b textbook today for algebra.

Holly – This week we had woodland and if you had your woodland gear you were allowed to go down to the muddy area and Miss Norman brought down some potato peelers and we got to take one and we ran down to the muddy bit and we got sticks and we started peeling them. Some people found a hidden area so they went in and it there was a small wooden fence and we weren’t allowed to go past it but it was very pretty and we found lots of sticks to potato peel!

Natalia – On Tuesday we had Mrs Hutcherson for art and music but we didn’t get to do   music. In art we made a sclupture ( ice cream). To make this we had to bring in a cereal box and a shirt but that was for next week and newspaper. The sculptures we made out of cereals is inspired by Claes Oldenburg. Here are some facts about him, he was born in Sweden and then later became an American citizen in 1953. He made food sculptures.

Holly – On Monday we were doing P.E and we were doing an obstacle course in the gym hall and the obstacle course contained of The long jump, hurdles, jumping over a small wall, javelin throwing, and a really race where we could do different moves like hopping, army crawling and much more!

Natalia – On Thursday we did Spanish learning numbers to 20, there was a video to help us learn the numbers. It was really fast and funny because we sped it up and slowed it down. We also learnt the colors Example: Rosa= Pink and a number is Quince= 15

Holly – On Thursday we had P.E and we were playing capture the flag/cone.There was the bib team and the non bib team and the non bib team won the game and we added in some new rules and one of the rules was that you need to be at least 2 meters away from the jail so that you camp camp.

Natalia – On Tuesday we also did some science. It was justification because scientists have justificate  if they have a theory. What we did was an odd one out there, there was no wrong answer we just had to explain why we thought that. Example: Steam train, Subway and an electric train. I said in my mind that the steam train is the odd one out because it is the oldest and it runs on coal.

Holly – On Thursday we were writing our nature poems and we could do it in any form we wanted and after we finished we got to re-draft them for the wall.

All – we had a great week!

Hello from P7B!!!

Written by – Holly and Natalia

Natalia – The Algebros started doing length and measurement and it was our first math group topic! We’ve been converting and greater and less than in measurement.

Holly – This week we started working on our second John Muir award! We were told to make either  a powerpoint, poster ,or a drama scene in a group of up to 4 people. We had to write about John Muir’s life.some groups decided to do all 3 of the tasks!today we are going to finish off our presentation/poster/drama to then show it to the rest of the class!

Natalia – We were doing writing and in our writing pieces we had to write as if we were John Muir! We had to write about a famous day as John Muir and one of the most popular ones was when John Muir and President Roosevelt went camping on Mount Yosemite!

Holly – One of our morning tasks was writing on the big white board about upstanding! Upstanding is a person who acts to make a positive change.in the morning we had to go up to the board and write down how we could be an upstanding person and about 5 people wrote how they could make a change!

Natalia – In P.E we were playing capture the flag but with cones! How to play is that the goal is to get the opposite team’s cones all of them, but the opposite team can tag while you are doing but you can do the same. If you get caught you go to jail and a teammate has to come to save  you and run with you back, then you are free.

Holly – On Friday we did a comic strip about our class book Cloud Busting. We had to summarise the parts of the book and write bit down/chapter 10.

All – We all had an amazing week this week!
