Welcome to 2022!!

Written by – Hannah, Rosie and Darcy

Heartstone – We designed our own sarees with Mrs Nasser. We made our own outfits on paper and coulerd them in, they looked beautiful.

Coding – the class split into 3 groups. The first  group was designing our own coding games with partners. The second group played coding games on the chromebooks. The third group played with 100 squares. Next we took it into the playground to code a path around the school for our friends to follow.

Numeracy- In numeracy our whole class have been looking at pie charts. We went round to different classes and asked them what they proffered out of lots of options like what your favourite colour is. We then made it into a pie chart.

Comprehension – We looked at a section of the book The Silver Sword. We answered questions in a booklet about it. We were really keen to read more of the story so we might look at the book as a class.

Art – We created calendars with our Northern Light pictures that we made last week. We looked at the Aurora Borealis in videos and pictures and discovered how they were formed.

PE – We started our gymnastics block by looking at balances and handstands, we surprised ourselves with how good we are at them!

In the MUGA Mr Wilson taught us a new game which made us focus on our coordination and observation skills.

Spanish – We looked at Encanto to help learn about different family members in Spanish. We were looking at Columbia and made comparisons between the movie and the country. We really enjoy the songs from the movie, especially since some of them are in Spanish.

Global Goals –  With Mr Wilson we looked at Ethical Trading and how the clothes we purchase and the companies we purchase from have a responsibility to treat their workers fairly. We were all slightly shocked to see an image of a Nike factory.

Friday 10th December – Christmas Jumper Day and Present Room!

This week we got to welcome Mr Wilson as a visitor to our classroom. He will be returning in January to spend 10 weeks.

Algebros used their knowledge of decimal numbers to create a card game this week.

Teo and Ethan taught their first half of their lesson about basketball to the class on Monday morning.

On Tuesday we looked at our non-fiction texts and found interesting facts to share with others within the class.

Rosie and Shravya taught us about art and we created images in groups, splitting faces in half to create a side each. They look fantastic!

Matthew, Harris, Leo and Finlay taught us all about different countries. Matthew even brought in some Hong Kong dollars. We all enjoyed playing would you rather based on different cultures.

We finally took a whole class photograph!

In the MUGA on Thursday Kaiden, Teo and Ethan led our lessons. They were all so well prepared and created fun and exciting challenges.

Back in the classroom Fraser taught us about some music history before we created our own songs on Chrome Music Lab. Each group created an interesting tune!

Friday was present room day and we all helped bring in presents and picked them for someone at home. We can’t wait to share them with our friends and family.

Chloe taught us all about star signs and we researched what that meant for us before creating an image linked to our own. Mrs Norman is a Pisces.

Sophie introduced us to Anne Frank through her excellent presentation and quiz. We can’t wait to continue our research next term.

In the afternoon Holly and Khadija led an art lesson looking at painting techniques. We created beautiful trees that we will display in the classroom.

Maths –

Graph gang – This week graph gang worked on decimals in weight and it was very fun. We also looked at multiplying and dividing multiples of 10.

Algebros – The Algebros finished looking at measuring angles and started to work on decimal fractions.

Fraction force – The Fraction Force started working on volume.

Number ninjas – Number Ninjas looked at different types of calendars and read information from them. They then started to work on multiplying and dividing

Writing –

This week in writing everyone wrote a newspaper article about whatever they wanted and it was exciting to see what everyone produced! We could either write about something in real life, exaggerate it completely or both at the same time!

Ethan wrote about Storm Arwin in Dundee except it was extremely exaggerated. It was very snowy and the Christmas fair got destroyed! (in the story)

John – I wrote about a shop called Aivalo’s shop of wonder and how a fight broke out inside.

Pe: On Monday we played dodgeball for PE , and on Thursday we played football and netball in the MUGA.

Literacy –

All groups have been looking at non-fiction texts linked to our learning. We have been using the different features of the text to answer questions.

Road Safety Week –

Primary 6 JRSO officers visited us to talk about Road Safety week. They shared a quiz about how we should act around roads to keep us safe. We then discussed who Road Safety Heroes are. In class we started to discuss all the different ways emergency services could help us and we spoke about the importance of staying safe as a passenger in a car as well as being a responsible pedestrian. We feel very lucky to have June and Cathy as our Crossing Patrollers to help us get in and out of the school safely.

Primary 7 Lesson planning –

Primary 7 have been given the opportunity to teach a lesson to the class. We need to decide on a subject to teach, set a learning intention and identify how we will know if the learners have successfully met the learning intention. We have had time to plan in class as well as at home for homework.

Our first lesson will be with Ethan and Teo on Monday when they lead us in a PE lesson.

On Wednesday as it was the first of December we decorated the classroom with some festive cheer! Each day we are opening a virtual advent calendar and today it had a link for a festive Just Dance!

We helped take all the gift donations for the present room to the family room today ready for the present room to be set up next Friday. We can’t wait to help out at the present room next week.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Book Week Scotland in Primary 7B

This week was Book Week Scotland.

Kaiden – We drew characters from our reading books as described by our partner. It was hard to draw a character who you already had an image of in your head.

Darcy – Mrs McGuigan visited the class to hand out achievement certificates. It felt amazing!

Hannah – We made ‘Starbook’ tokens to recommend to other classes and teachers to encourage them to read more books.

Emilia – For outdoor learning we were doing freeze frames linked to the life of John Muir and We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.

John – For the Gruffalo and The Three Little Pigs we created headlines that were sensible and linked and also ones that were ‘Clickbait.’

Daniel – We finished our Titanic topic by learning about the events surrounding it’s crash. We discovered in our class only 10 out of 33 would have survived.

Emilia – We found out that the number of people who died was the same amount of people as there are pupils at Eastwood. There are not normally as many icebergs in April as there were in 1912. It is the fourth highest April on record.

Olivia – It only took 2 and a half hours between the Titanic hitting the iceberg and it fully sinking.

Ethan – We looked at our screws that had been sitting in salt and fresh water for a few weeks. We noticed the screws in salt and away from sunlight had rusted faster than the others.

Ethan – We finished book week with our ‘Starbooks’ reading cafe. We had hot chocolate, snacks and brought in something comfy to enjoy the afternoon.

Millie – We completed the whole school quiz to guess the teachers favourite books – I think we will win!!
