WB 27.11.23

Art

We are using clay to make 3D shapes. Then we use those shapes to make the features of a face. We are working towards making a clay head with armature inside it to support the clay.

WB 20.11.23

Respect Cities

We used what we learned about respectful behaviour to work together to make Respect Cities out of one of our favourite building materials – Kapla.

Outdoor Spelling

During our Woodlands time on Monday we tried to find things that started with every letter of the alphabet. We used our respectful behaviour rules and technology to cooperate and think creatively.

Road Safety

During Road Safety week we heard from PC Mitchell about how to keep safe when we are out and about. We found out it is also our responsibility to keep safe and we got some great safety tips to pass on to all the adults in our lives. We used what we learned to make some posters for the JRSO competition.

wb 13.11.23

This week was Anti-Bullying Week in Scotland and P4a did lots of work about respect – what it looks and sounds like. The differences between joking around and bullying behaviour and how to make a noise about bullying.

We used our report writing and technology skills to write reports during Anti-Bullying Week. We worked in teams to draw and write what respect looks like. We made our own plans to make “A choices” when things go wrong. We put these principles into practice on Friday to make “Respect Cities”

We made some cooperative Landscape Art on Monday, Like the famous artist Andy Goldsworthy and took some beautiful pictures in the Autumn sunshine.

During our Kodaly music session we were practising all of our rhythms and making group music using drumsticks. We learned another new song to add to our already massive collection!

Wb 30.10.23

Swimming

On Monday we went for our first swimming lesson. We swam forwards and backwards across the pool. We also tried some bouncing and putting our ears and faces underwater.

Woodlands will happen as normal next week (Monday 6th of November)

Health and Wellbeing/STEM

We finished our Brickoramas that showed the dangers of Bonfire night. We wrote bossy verb captions telling people how to keep safe.  There were lots of tips and tricks to remember. We shared our creations using cloud technology.

HATVSER

During assembly today we had a visitor to talk about Harvest and how Christians celebrate it by being thankful to God for our food. Another way they celebrate it is by thinking of ways to help others around the world who may not have enough food because of droughts (not enough rain) or floods (too much rain).

One way we thought we could help as individuals is to donate food to foodbank trolleys in Supermarkets when we pass them.

We are still looking for donations of old tents that never get used (and you don’t mind not getting back). We are also looking for:

  • Nails
  • Screws
  • Scrap wood
  • Hinges and ANY old ironmongery
  • Old electrical items
  • Old mechanical items

Thanks for reading

Keeping Safe in Unsafe Situations

We have been using our note taking, drama writing and Lego building skills to identify the dangers of fireworks night and find ways to make it safer.

We worked out what might be unsafe about fireworks night, drawing from our own experiences.

Then we took notes from two different sources on how to keep safe and discovered there were more dangers than we first thought.

We used Mr Chrystal’s and Mr Sparkles’ examples to reports to work out what makes a successful report about Fireworks Night safety.

We created a short drama called “The Safe Fireworks Night” using freeze frames and creative thinking.

Finally we make Brickoramas (Lego dioramas!) with safety cards to show what we have learned about Keeping safe on Fireworks Night (Photos to follow!)

Maths Week in P4a

Maths in Motion

As part of our Maths Week Scotland activities we made marble runs during our outdoor learning time. The skills we used were teamworking skills, creativity, angles and problem solving.

We also did a Maths Relay and raced against each other to answer tricky maths problems. The skills we used were problem solving, not giving up and working as a co-operative team.

Some of us learned a classic card game called Rack-o! The people that know how to play it now will teach others over the next few weeks.

One of our classmates left Crookfur today! We will miss them very much and we all wish them the best of luck in their new school!

Good afternoon!

TWMTDW

Last Friday we worked together during our TWMTDW session. We had a very small amount of materials and we had to make the longest paper chain we could in 20 mins. We needed to delegate jobs, make a production line, conserve materials and use problem solving skills to make the most efficient long chain. Our longest chain was around 12 meters long, but the teams that were the most successful had a common trait – they worked as a unit.

WRITING/STORYTELLING

Our Writing and Storytelling were linked to the same story – the Sweet Talking Potato. We retold the story to our partner – this week’s focus was on using a voice that would interest and engage our audience. When we wrote our own versions of our story we were focusing on using word choices that would tell us more about the characters in the tale.

MR SPARKLE

We got an email from an old friend of Mr Chrystal – Tony Sparkle. He wants to get much better at writing and he sent us a story to look at. We gave him some top tips and emailed him back. Hopefully he keeps in touch.

CLIMATE AND AND CONTINENTS OF THE WORLD

We looked at hot and cold areas of the world, what countries they contained and what the challenges were for animals and humans living there. We will continue to look at the interaction between humans, the environment and the energy that exists in different eco-systems.

HOCKEY

Our MUGA PE time was spent on the first of a series of hockey lessons. We worked on moving with the stick, reverse stick and trapping a moving ball.

T.W.M.T.D.W.

Good afternoon

We have been working on a mini topic called “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work” (TWMTDW!)

We used Kapla to build various things but the most important thing was working together co-operatively, using kind words and making sure everyone was involved.

We also had our first session in the Woodlands Area. We had a Scavenger Hunt where we had to find people and things in the Woodland area. We also played really well together.

Happy Friday!

From P4a and Mr Chrystal

Good Afternoon from Mr Chrystal

Good afternoon to all P4a parents and carers!

Glad to finally have a line of communication open – apologies for the later entry due to issues at my end.

I’m really looking forward to working with you all this year and building our learning environment together.

I have reset all the children’s glow passwords and have sent home a reminder of their username and a note of the password. It would be great if the password could remain as it is on the card, to allow for easy logistics when we are using technology in class and school. They will have a note of their username and password in class too.

Homework will be going out tomorrow at 3:15ish. They should have been added to the temporary Homework Classroom today – Next week your child should be in their Group Classrooms (a separate literacy and numeracy one)

I hope to see you all on Wednesday in school during our evening event.

Kind regards

Mr Chrystal
