Primary 4A: Week Beginning 20/06/22 (Last Blog of the Year)

Welcome to the P4A class blog! We cannot wait to share all of our learning with you and hopefully this will give you an insight into our week.

Mr Atkinson’s comment:

There has been a lot of excitement in the class this week with the pupils meeting their new teachers and the winning house students going to Heads of Ayr Farm Park.

Over the course of this week and next I will be sending home some jotters, folders and worksheets and the rest will be passed onto your child’s new teacher as part of our transition process.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my thanks to all the parents and guardians for your support this year. It has been a pleasure teaching the P4A class and I am so proud of both their academic and personal achievements, of which there are many mentioned in previous blog posts.

I hope everyone has a fantastic summer holidays and I look forward to seeing all the pupils in primary 5 where I am also moving to next year!

Literacy and English

Mason and Maira – We created letters for our new teachers to read. We included information about who we are, our interests, summer plans and what we enjoyed in P4.

Numeracy and Maths

Zak – We finished our multiplication and division topic by learning how to divide with remainders.

Harry – This week we have been learning how to use a calculator to help solve subtraction calculations.

Mueez – My group has been using our knowledge of division to find a fraction of a number. To help us with this we have been drawing circles and dots on our whiteboards.

Hadia – We finished learning about 1 and 2 lines of symmetry this week. My group applied this knowledge by drawing patterns and shapes and our friends had to determine how many lines of symmetry they had.

Health and Wellbeing

Harry – We were all so excited to open our time capsules that we created at the beginning of P4. It was funny to compare how our handwriting has improved and checking how much we have grown against the string we used to measure ourselves in August. After reading the letters that we wrote to our future selves we wrote another letter to our past selves about all the wonderful activities we have done in P4!

Expressive Arts

Freya – This week we have worked in groups to learn our lines from our Charlotte’s Web scripts. We performed our scenes in front of the class and we made sure to include different expressions, tones and gesturing to match the characters interactions.

Outdoor Learning

Ruairidh – On Friday we started to clear and empty our P4 garden area. Whilst digging we discovered that our radishes had grown so we dug them out and everyone got a couple to take home.

Other

Daniel and Ruairidh On Friday we found out our new houses, which are based on Scottish islands, and we also voted for our new house leaders.

Millie – Everyone in the class has been secretly recording goodbye messages for Mr Atkinson! He was totally shocked when we shared it with him.

Lauren – Some of our Maths lessons involved dividing by 4 and solving word problems using the 4 times table.

Health and Wellbeing

Isla – In P.E. this week we created a new game called Space Invaders! It was so much fun and I liked that it included aspects of our Space topic. Astronauts (us) had to reach planets (different areas in the MUGA) and avoid meteorites (catchers).

IDL (Space)

Ruairidh – Using our line drawing skills and our knowledge of bird’s-eye view perspective we sketched our spacecrafts. We will use these drawings to help build replica models over the course of next week.

Millie – We used the Chromebooks to research our spacecrafts and took notes on their appearance, shape and colour.

Outdoor Learning

Charlie – This week we designed an assault course for the class to enjoy by gathering resources from the woodland!
