Welcome back to our Blog! After the October break, we are ready to engage in our learning more than ever!
In Maths, we have been exploring Place Value!
‘I have learnt about tens and units.’ – London
‘Tens are rods that are made up of 10 units.’ – Kerr
‘Units are ones.’ – Stuart
‘I can use concrete materials to make two digit numbers and I can identify which number is a ten and unit.’ – Hasan
During our mental maths starters, we have been working hard with our number talks. Number talks is where we simply have a conversation about the strategy we have used to reach our answer. All of us may have different strategies and that is great! However, it is important that we discuss this and lay out our working.
We have learnt the hand signals for number talks! Please ask us about it and we can show at home!
We have been learning how to round numbers to the nearest ten! This is enabling us to estimate the answers to addition and subtraction calculations.
‘I am adding up my totals together and rounding it to the nearest ten.’ – Luca R.
In Literacy we have been learning about Proper Nouns!
‘A proper noun is a specific thing such as a name. Pencil is a common noun but if I said pink pencil it is a proper noun because it is specific.’ – Lilian
‘Proper nouns are not generic things such as supermarkets. However, Home Bargains or Waitrose is a proper noun.’ – Harrison
‘Proper Nouns almost every time begins with a capital letter.’ – London
‘We used library books to find proper nouns and common nouns.’ – Gurleen
In Writing, we have began self-assessing our work as we are now confident at identifying the success criteria. We give ourselves two stars and a wish and try to improve on our work every week!
We are almost at the end of our Stone Age topic! We discussed the timeline of the Stone Age and we were discussing the chronological events which occurred throughout the Stone Age!
After, we used our Artistic skills to draw Fred the Flintstones as we learnt that he lived in the Stone Age!
The boys and girls insisted that their adults at home did not believe they drew him because of how amazing their work was! These pictures will show you just how outstanding they were and how they drew Fred from the beginning! We are AMAZING ARTISTS!
We have also explored different foods that were consumed within the Stone Age. We used our imagination to create our own recipes!
Wow! What another fantastic week of learning. Well done superstars! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
