Maths Week Scotland 2021!

We have been celebrating Maths Week Scotland! Throughout the week, we have engaged in a variety of activities to capture the purpose of maths within our daily lives, practised our skills across different concepts (money, time and fractions) and enjoyed problem solving challenges!

We were discussing the purpose of Maths concepts such as time and money. We were shocked and amazed at how Maths is included in everything we do on a daily basis.

Whilst exploring outdoors, we made Venn Diagrams to compare and contrast objects of our own choice!

‘A venn diagram is where we compare different things or objects.’ – Kerr

‘We compared hard/green items, hard/soft, squishy/orange and pointy/green.’ – London, Oscar, Gurleen and Lilian

‘The middle part of the Venn Diagram shows that an object is the same as both sides. It is called an intersection.’ – Yahya

The rain was pouring down towards the end of Woodland. Therefore, we ended it with some hot drinks and a biscuit!

We learnt about Rangoli Patterns!

‘A Rangoli pattern is a pattern which is symmetrical. It is commonly from Hindu religion and is colourful.’ – Fara

‘In Rangoli patterns there is symmetry, colours and the colours are all very bright. They are beautiful.’ – Harrison

We explored flags from around the world. We identified the different shapes within the flags too!

‘Some flags were symmetrical and some were not. Every flag has different shapes.’ – Hasan

‘Triangles, sqaures, rectangles, stars were in some flags. These are 2D shapes.’ – Luca

During the week, we have also had the opportunity to play the Sumdog Maths contest!

Everyone has returned from the holidays ready to work extremely hard. You have had a brilliant week! See you on Monday superstars!
